If you happen to have a modern mountain bike with a top tube that’s not level, hanging your bike on a hitch mounted rack is nearly impossible. This does not mean that you have to go out and sell your rack for spare parts, but you need to take a look at the Yakima Tubetop accessory.
Yakima Tubetop Details
This Yakima Tubetop accessory attaches to your seatpost and stem for your handlebars. When attached to post and stem, this makes for a straight and level tube/bar that fits nicely on hanging hitch mounted bike rack. To fit various bike sizes and shapes, the Tubetop is adjustable and can fit sizes from small to XL frames. To ensure the Tubetop stays in place, there are locks on both sides to keep your bike from slipping out.
I have a Specialized Stumpjumper Comp, size L, and the first time I tried to hang the bike without the Tubetop was a nightmare. It was actually my wife who tried while I was out of town, needless to say my bike did not make it hanging on the bike rack like it should have. Fast forward a couple weeks with the Tubetop and traveling with my mountain bike was a breeze. For me the Yakima Tubetop is well worth every penny. Visit amazon.com/yakima for more information.
