With school back in session, the Solo New York Boyd Backpack is ready to haul your gear from point A to point B in style. Solo New York has been around since 2008 and has been designing messenger bags, tablet cases, and backpacks with an urban feel. As a middle school teacher I am always on the lookout for the perfect backpack. For me this means a pack that can handle the elements when commuting, professional in appearance, and equipped to carry a variety of items. This fall I have had the pleasure of using the Solo New York Boyd Backpack when traveling back and forth to school.

The Solo New York Boyd Backpack is a well designed backpack with many likable features starting with the material used. The design material is a plaid waxed canvas. The canvas has a heavy rugged feel and looks to be fairly weather resistant. The bottom of the SOLO New York Boyd Backpack is made of heavy black leather.

The zippers used throughout the construction of the Solo New York Boyd Backpack are oversized with large teeth and pulls. Similarly, the hardware used on the straps of the backpack are built of metal which gives a classy durable look. On the top of pack is a leather handle for easy carrying when not being worn on the back.
Within the Solo New York Boyd Backpack there is a full range of storage options. The large main pocket contains a padded laptop protector case and tablet case. Additionally, there are other multiple smaller pockets within this large compartment as well.

The SOLO New York Boyd Backpack contains two other pockets for storage. The larger of the two pockets can hold full size items such as magazines, books, and folders. A smaller pocket on the front of the pack can help you easily access small to medium sized necessities.
On both sides of the SOLO New York Boyd Backpack there are expandable pockets that can each fit a water bottle or similarly shaped object.
My Experience with the SOLO New York Boyd Backpack
The Solo New York Boyd Backpack has really checked all the boxes that I need. It is both functional as well as stylish. What I have been most pleased with most is the versatility of the Solo New York Boyd Backpack. This backpack seems to fit in everywhere from the office to the field. This fall the Boyd Backpack has been my go to for school, meetings, and everything in between.

Storage
The pockets of the Solo New York Boyd Backpack are the perfect sizes. Within the main pocket is the laptop pocket. This pocket not only houses the computer it also is well padded and will protect the computer from being jostled around. This definitely comes in handy on rough gravel roads while biking to work.
Other features of the main pocket are the smaller compartments that allow for the organization of items from keys to business cards. This pocket is great so that all of the small items do not get lost in the abyss of the large pocket.
The main compartment is large enough so that textbooks, extra clothing, and a lunch can be stored. What makes this compartment complete is the oversize quality zipper that will keep all of the valuables in safe without worry of spilling out. There definitely is little concern of this zipper breaking which was the demise of many of my backpacks in my youth.
The outside pockets do a great job of housing the items that need easy access. Both these pockets are relatively similar in size and function and like the rest of the Solo New York Boyd Backpack the zippers are quality.
Of all of the pockets present on the Solo New York Boyd Backpack the side pockets are my favorite. These pockets fit a coffee container perfectly. With the elastic band they are able to hold my Rambler secure enough that even on bike commutes on a gravel road my coffee stays put. All I can say is, “Why were these pockets not present on my graduate school backpack!?”

The Little Things
The details are really what set the Boyd Backpack apart. The quality components are outstanding. Metal buckles and leather is used throughout the design to add durability as well as aesthetic appeal.
On the same line, the waxed canvas feels durable and ready to withstand some abuse. Complementing the rugged waxed canvas is the padding that is used on the back and shoulder straps of the Solo New York Boyd Backpack making for a comfortable wear.
