Grand Trunk Micro Stool Review
The Grand Trunk Micro Stool is the smallest stool I have ever used in the great outdoors. It sits 11 inches off the ground and weighs in at 10 oz. This makes it a perfect travel companion as it doesn’t take up a lot of room nor does it weigh your pack down. The Micro Stool breaks down and fits into a tiny stuff sack so it can fit in almost any pocket in your pack.
The uses for the Grand Trunk Micro Stool are somewhat limited depending on size of person. The best use I see for the this stool is if you are taking long day hikes or adventures in a location or climate zone that gets a lot of precipitation. If you are on your feet for a long time, it’s nice to be able to take a seat and not get your bottom soaked.
Since the Grand Trunk Micro Stool is so short, it is a little awkward to sit in if you are a bigger person. I am 6’0 and 175lbs and while I found it fun and novel to sit in, I also felt like I was crouching down a little. For me, I like to have a chair that sets me a little higher off the ground. Grand Trunk says it can hold up to 250 pounds, but from a size of human to chair ratio, most people weighing in around 250lbs will want a little more chair. Where I can see this chair coming in handy is for kids. First, I think kids will love the idea of having a chair just for them. And since it is so unique, they will love it. Another reason it’s good for kids is that if they fall off the chair, they are only falling a whopping 11 inches.
One of the downfalls to the Grand Trunk Micro Stool is that it can be challenging at times to set it up. While it might be small and you would think it would be easy to set up, it’s not always the case. The legs on the chair are an exact fit, so if you are a millimeter off, you will have trouble setting the chair up. Once you set it up a few times, it gets easy. We had 5 people try to set it up for a first time and only 1 of 5 people found it easy to setup.
My overall impression of the Grand Trunk Micro Stool is that it is very niche and only meets the needs of a very small market when it comes to people in the outdoors. For kids, I think as long as you can get it set up for them, it is a fun little chair.
