The Victorinox Rescue Tool is a knife set that not only looks cool, but has extreme functionality when you find someone or yourself in a pinch. The tool is best suited for firemen, police officers, and other rescue personnel because its’ components most relate to helping someone out of a car wreck. Although we didn’t rescue anyone with the knife, we did take it out into the great outdoors. One of the reasons we chose to review this knife/tool is because it has some added features that are not available on your typical pocket knife, but does not have a lot of unnecessary features that we would never use. The Rescue Tool includes 2 knife blades that are extremely sharp; one that locks into place and one that does not. The Rescue tool comes with a windshield breaker that we used for placing a whole in our butane canister so we could recycle them. It comes with a flat head and phillips screwdriver which comes in handy when in the field. In particular, we needed to change the battery in our SteriPEN water purifier and we needed a flat headed screw driver. The saw is useful for cutting small pieces of tinder for the campfire. While camping, the illumination of the knife was nice when it became dark, we didn’t have to search for our rescue tool! Last, but not least, the Victorinox Rescue tool has a nice case that has a loop you can put a backpack hip belt or regular belt through. Having easy access to the knife while hiking gave a sense of security, especially when there was a lot of bear activity before hibernation in Colorado. This tool is best suited for day hiking and car camping, but may be a little heavy for fast packing backpackers.
