Dogs love furniture. Aspen and Suki, the ActiveGearReview dogs are no exception to this rule, especially after a long day on the trail. We were therefore thrilled to receive the Cool Cot Elevated Dog Bed by Maze Pets. The Cool Cot offers the dogs an alternative to our couch or the hardwood floors in the house.
We tested the size large Cool Cot, which measures 33 x 7 x 38 inches and provides ample surface area for a larger dog, such as our pups. The Cool Cot is also pretty sturdy and has held myself and Aspen, or a combined weight of 205 lbs! I would not suggest doing this for too long, because the webbing will most definitely stretch out, but it signifies that larger dogs should feel well supported by the cot. The 7” dimension, listed above, is the approximate distance off the ground of the cot. Because the cot is made from webbing the height varies depending on the pups weight. The elevation off the ground, especially when outside allows for air circulation underneath the dog, which leads to a cooler-happier dog.
The Cool Cot took about 7 min to assemble the first time around. It is fairly simple to put up and take down, however, we tend to leave ours around the house for post work out lounging! For those of you that would like to take it camping or on the road, it is not as convenient as we had hoped: it does not come with a travel bag to keep all of the parts together and it is more labor intensive than putting up a tent.
The legs of the cot are made from metal and painted tan. The mesh is a pale salmon hue. These colors are great for outside because they don’t heat up in the sun, however, for in house use these colors aren’t the most attractive or easy to blend in with the permanent fixtures. The footpads of the cot can be staked down via holes within the footpad. The pads are great at distributing the weight and preventing a “rocking” motion to the cot, however the shape of the pads are a little awkward for placing a pre-cut floor protector pad underneath for in house use to protect hardwoods. I found some uncut protector pad material and cut out the clover leaf shape to protect our floors.
The Cool Cot by Maze Pets, has become a happy resting spot for Aspen and Suki. Only problem is that we only have one, which means we have a little more space on the couch, but are not yet dog free on the couch!
