When your usually obedient unleashed four legged running partner decides she wants to take the shortest way to the trail head with no regard for traffic or other imposing dangers, it can down right cause problems and put a damper on an entire run.
Since my Lab was about 2 years old, I have trained her to run right alongside of me without a leash. Seven wonderful leash-less years of running later something has changed, whether it’s her age or impatience, she no longer has a desire to do any extended running on the roads, she just wants to get right to the trails where she can be free to roam and chase squirrels. And in do so has crossed a road or two with no regard for vehicles, even causing a truck driver to lock up his brakes and come to a screeching halt in order to avoid running her over. I needed a quick and easy solution. I didn’t want to carry anything extra on my runs, but I needed to have her leashed while road running and wanted her to roam free when on the trails. The Ruffwear Quick Draw is a leash that can be worn around a dog’s collar when not in use, allowing the dog to enjoy off-leash freedom but can be quickly and easily deployed when the option of a short restraining leash is needed. The Quick Draw clips onto any collar and wraps around the dog’s neck, securing with a hook and loop closure.
Clip the Quick Draw Leash onto the D-ring of any collar, wrap it around your dog’s neck over the collar, and then secure it with the Velcro closure.

The Verdict on the Ruffwear Quick Draw
The Ruffwear Quick Draw is the perfect solution to always having a leash available even when you don’t need it. It is lightweight enough that it can be left on your dog like a second collar, so it is always there and ready for deployment at a moments notice. The one thing that should be mentioned is, if your dog is a leader (leash puller) there is no built in hand loop to provide a secure and firm hold on this leash, just a tab that could easily slip through your grip. With that said, the leash can be shortened up, which will make a loop if needed, but at that point you are making an already short leash even shorter. For my case the Quick Draw was the exact answer that I needed and allowed my pup to know when it was time to stay near and when it was time to roam.
