And that is why Ruffwear created the Urban Sprawl, which is a plush dog bed made up of a microsuede cover with a waterproof base and a recycled two-sided mattress.
What’s in the Box?
My adventure companion is a 90 pound black Lab, so I ordered the Large size Urban Sprawl, since I considered my dog to be on the larger side of dog breeds. Contained within the box from Ruffwear is a rolled up mattress and the microsuede mattress cover.
After taking the mattress out of the plastic compression wrap it takes about 48 hours for the mattress to fully expand and look like a normal dog bed.
The mattress cover is constructed of a micro-suede top surface and a waterproof, recycled bottom. The microsuede top delivers a soft comfort and does not cling to dirt, sticks or leaves. After a couple of months of use by my dog that is wet and muddy more often than not, the cover looks no worse for wear. The mattress cover can easily be removed, allowing cover and mattress to be washed separately, making cleaning a breeze. The waterproof base prevents moisture from seeping from the ground to your dog as well as from your dog to the ground, outdoor and indoor use, double bonus there. As soft as the microsuede sleeping surface is, it has been incredibly durable and has handle the dogs claws and uncountable spins before bedding down, it appears that it will stand up to years of doggy downtime.

Soft or Firm Mattress
The magic of the Urban Sprawl Bed lies in its core. The recycled polyester fill has two densities, giving your dog the option of a firm or soft sleeping surface just by removing the mattress cover and flipping it over. Simply pull the mattress out of the zippered bed cover and flip it over to change from firm to soft, or vice versa.
Why have the options of a soft or firm sided mattress for a dog?

Size
The Urban Sprawl is available in two sizes, medium and large and two colors, Trailhead Brown and Overcast Blue. As I mentioned in the beginning I ordered the Large bed, that may have been a misjudgment on my part, large dog does not necessary equal large dog bed. The large Urban Sprawl is huge. Dogs will general curly up when they sleep and when my pup does, there is probably room for three of her on this bed. I could have easily gotten away with the medium sized bed. While the Urban Sprawl will fit just about any dog, my advise is to downsize, unless you have an actual horse sized dog.
