If you are like me, something is always in your hands, whether it be coffee, a cell phone, protein bar, keys, a smelly bag of brown joy, or a leash you are always carrying something! There is nothing worse than not being able to move your hands freely while walking or running your four legged pooch. Stunt Puppy’s Stunt Runner Leash turns your hands on problem to a hands free solution. I take my best friend Bentley with me on all of my adventures. I hate having him on leash for two reasons 1) I am not able to move freely and 2) he is constantly pulling or stopping and I’m jerking around like a rag doll. However, with stricter leash laws having him off leash is becoming a thing of the past.
Bentley is a 5 year old 115 pound black lab/mix who has the vivacious energy of a 2 year old lab! Walking and/or running him can be a struggle. He has so much power and energy that he can drag me down with one swift step. So naturally I am very hesitant to strap a leash around my waist with the beast on the end. When I first received the Stunt Runner Leash I was a little nervous to try it out. The leash seemed short and I was definitely not use to having Bentley so close to me. I ended up making my husband use it first while hiking and slowly I braved up to the task.
After multiple hikes, walks, and runs between both my husband and I we have come to love the Stunt Runner Leash. It has become our go to leash for all of our favorite activities. There are so many pros for this leash! First off the Stunt Runner Leash is extremely light weight. The waist strap is thin, light and adjusts to any size. I can hardly tell it is on when I’m wearing it. The Tech Tape fabric is really smooth around my waist and has not caused any chaffing (granted it is winter so I am wearing more clothing). The bar tack stitching reinforces the leash and makes the leash extremely durable. Bentley loves to carry and chew on his leashes and so far the Tech tape & bar tack stitching has held up to his jowls. Along with being lightweight and durable, the Stunt Runner Leash is made with Scotchlite reflective material to help your dog stand out in the dark. I love anything reflective because Bentley is pitch black in the dark so any extra safety measure is a real plus in my book.
Best Features
The best and most noticeable feature of the leash is the flexible bungee connector that connects you to your dog. It seems rather short but it stretches just enough so when your dog for example stops to mark his territory and you keep your pace, you don’t jerk backwards. The bungee absorbs that extra pull and dampens the jolt. When you think of bungee please do not be fooled that it has a lot of give. It is flexible, but it stretches probably about a foot. According to Stunt Puppy it stretches from 35″-51″. At the end of the bungee connector is a keep close traffic handle for when your friend tries to deviate off course.
The Stunt Runner Leash has snap hooks that are quite durable and easy to open. The snap hooks swivel so you have a decreased chance of getting all tangled up.
When I first put the Stunt Runner Leash around my waist and hooked Bentley up to me, I felt like he was really close. This can be a pro and a con. The pro is that Bentley heels right beside me while running. I don’t have to worry about him wondering around and sniffing every tree trunk or fire hydrant. Bentley is nice and close and really does not have the opportunity to get far from me. While running I love the closeness the leash provides. While hiking or walking I take longer strides and notice that I sometimes step or kick Bentleys feet if he goes out in front of me instead of beside me. It isn’t a huge deal, I just have to pull the leash off to the side. The belt D-ring slides easily and allows your dog to move back and forth. I do like that Stunt Puppy offers a flexible connector sold separately. So if you really wanted the flexible connector longer you can add an extension. It would add some weight and I wouldn’t want to use it while running with him but with hiking or walking it might not be a bad option.
Final Thoughts About the Stunt Puppy Stunt Runner Leash
Overall, both my husband and I have really enjoyed using this leash. We love the versatility, lightness, and hands free option of the Stunt Runner Leash. I use the leash the most while walking Bentley. I like to talk on my phone while walking and it is nice to have both hands free so I can be on my phone. It is just plain convenient not to have to be holding onto anything. When I use it running I love that both of my arms are completely mobile. My movement isn’t constricted by holding onto a leash. I would recommend this leash to anyone who is sick and tired of holding on to literally everything while walking or running your dog.
