Review: Leki Makalu
We recently tested out the Leki Super Makalu and wow did they perform. We put these poles through all kinds of test to see what they could take. When fording ranging rivers and streams, we felt very confident in the crossings. We used them for hiking the 14,000 ft. mountains in Colorado and they were very stable when we got into the scree, ice, and snow.
Some ask, why use trekking poles when hiking? Our answer is that it gives you that added security that you didn’t think you needed, they are nice to have in case you get injured, and they also help you out on the uphill climbs giving some relief for your calves. Examples include; crossing streams, hiking over snow fields, walking on ice, hiking on uneven rock, hiking up steep ascents, aiding a sprained ankle, or even protecting yourself from the wild if the unforeseen attack happens.
We understand there are a lot of options out there with a wide array of prices, but this is what we know. Leki has been in the trekking pole business for a long time now and they are who we look to for quality trekking poles. You can find out more about the Super Makalu and other Leki products at Leki.com
