WHITEDUCK has long been a leader in durable camping and hunting tents. More recently, White Duck has added Glamping and all it’s accessories to the lineup. I recently came upon WHITEDUCK’s Dog Bed while perusing their website. Since I will be living for 6 months out of my van this year, I was attracted to the indoor/outdoor ruggedness of WHITEDUCK’s Design.

WHITEDUCK designed their dog bed with a tough 10 oz. ripstop canvas fabric with a water repellent coating. It has a full length zipper on the long edge of the bed which makes it super easy to remove the inside stuffing. I ordered the large bed to accommodate one of my Australian Cattle Dogs who weigh around 35 lbs. The bed fit them nicely.

WHITEDUCK Dog Bed: Unpacking the Box

I was quite surprised at the huge size of this package when it arrived. Once I opened the box, I found that WHITEDUCK had double packed the bed so there was a smaller box inside the large box with lots of packing paper around it. It seemed like overkill for such a durable item. I was a bit disappointed with the way it was packaged in the smaller box. I wish I had taken a picture but didn’t realize at the time that it was an issue. The bed was folded into a tiny package and vacuum packed so tight that the polyester fill never recovered. I will touch more on that later in the review.

The Cover of the WHITEDUCK Dog Bed

The cover of the WHITEDUCK Dog Bed is really where this product shines. The material feels durable and has an attractive leather logo attached. Also, it is very well sewn at the seams and zipper. My dogs aren’t chewers so I can’t comment on the durability against dog teeth but it feels like it would be tough to tear. I am also very impressed with the ability of the cover to shed water. The canvas is thick and I anticipate it will withstand being used all over the rocky grounds of the Colorado Rockies during my travels. The dog bed comes in two color options, tan or brown.

The zipper allows for easy removal of the filling for washing.
The seems are neat and well sewn.

The bed cover was not overly soft and at first, I thought that may be why my dogs wouldn’t lay on it. I initially laid a fuzzy cover over the bed to see if the dogs would get used to it. Right away, my red heeler took to the bed. (See the sleeping beauty below). After a few times in the bed, I took away the fuzzy pad since I didn’t plan to take it with me on my travels. The dogs continued to sleep on the bed and didn’t seem to mind the fabric. I’m guess the issue was a new smell to them which was resolved rather quickly.

WHITEDUCK’s Polyester Fill

After I unpacked the dog bed from it’s compressed packaging, the filling felt quite lumpy. The full length zipper was a great feature in removing the inner pillow. Removing the inner pad, I found the it was nicely sewn with two full length baffles to prevent the filling from going all to one corner. This is nice feature to help keep the stuffing organized but I found that there were several empty areas where there was no stuffing. The stuffing had been compressed so much during shipping that it was in lumpy “balls” in various areas. Even after some fluffing and re-adjusting of the stuffing, I wasn’t happy with how uneven the stuffing was distributed in the dog bed.

When the bed arrived, the filling was quite uneven.

I respect that WHITEDUCK uses polyester fill used from recycle PET materials but I have to question if it was the right choice for a dog bed in this price point. I was never really able to get the filing separated and distributed evenly throughout the dog bed, nonetheless, my dogs seem to like it.

Final Thoughts and Recommendations on the WHITEDUCK Dog Bed

WHITEDUCK had a great idea adding an outdoor dog bed to it’s lineup of excellent products. I am certain the durability of the exterior will not come into question. The dogs seem to like lying on the bed and have started using it regularly in our home. I bought this bed with the hopes that the dogs would have a resting spot to insulate them from the cold ground during our six months of mountain travel. Finding a dog bed that was durable and adventure-proof enough to lay on the bare earth and rock made me super happy!

The jury is still out on the stuffing. I’m questioning if the dogs will like it on rocky ground with bare spots in the stuffing distribution. I will distribute the stuffing as best I can, but perhaps something more supportive could be used for comfort. A more premium filling would justify the price point at $96.

The WHITEDUCK Dog Bed will definitely be an asset to the dogs while we travel. It will clean up easily and is super lightweight, yet durable. I love that the color selections were earthy and won’t easily show dirt. To check out WHITEDUCK’s amazing products, including the WHITEDUCK Dog Bed, visit their website at www.whiteduckoutdoors.com.
