Now that you have your bottom half covered with the Chaka Skirt, its’ time to cover your top half with some cozy comfort, also from Horny Toad. Thankfully, the Heartfelt Sweater will not disappoint. The Heartfelt sweater features a blend of boiled lambswool and angora. When you think of boiled wool, you think of a heavy-dense-thick garment that may not give or move with you. The Heartfelt’s combo is none of those things, thankfully. Rather, the combo of fabric is fuzzy, soft, and provides excellent warmth without feeling too heavy or restrictive.
The Heartfelt features a relaxed fit that allows you to layer it over a long or short sleeve and even where it as a jacket in moderate temperatures. With that said, the sizing is a bit more generous then other tops or sweaters from Horny Toad. I tested the size small and found the fit to be great for the purpose of wearing with other layers. However, if you are looking for slim sweater to wear over a tank then I would encourage ordering a size smaller than your typical Horny Toad size, as based on the size guide available online. The arm length was plenty long and if you have shorter arms simply roll the ends up a bit, as the sleeves feature a rolled cuff. The sweater length was also adequate and hits just below the hips. If you are looking for a longer sweater then check out the Heartfelt Long Sweater, also by Horny Toad. This sweater has different styling, but features the same fabric and is available in similar colors. I did not review this product, therefore I cannot comment or compare too much, but it appears to have a more tailored fit and comes with a belt.
The Heartfelt sweater features an asymmetrical button up design with large-sturdy buttons along the left side with a shawl collar (think cowl-neck). When buttoned, the sweater does not feel bulky in the front as the overlap of the two sides is a mere 6 inches. I liked this overlap and felt that it helped keep me cozy on cold days. The sweater also features two front pockets that adds a bit of style but can actually be used as well for small items, ie the ever important chapstick in winter months. The sleeves, hem, and top of the pockets feature a rolled design that helps keep the sweater appearance as casual, comfortable and soft versus angular.
After a few wears, I have noticed some regular pilling or shedding as a I call it under the arms of the sweater. I simply used my sweater stone and it looks brand new again. This is not a big deal for me as most wool sweaters are bound to require a bit of maintenance. As for caring for the sweater, Horny Toad recommends hand washing the sweater in cold water and laying it flat for drying. “Dirty is the new clean; wear more, wash less. Wear it out or pass it on,” is also on the care tag. I have yet to wash it and am abiding by the wear more and wash less mentality as I typically layer it up and wash the under layers. I will update you on how the sweater washes up in a future post comment.
MSRP is 148, however I have seen some great discounts available due to mid-season/winter. The sweater is available in sizes XS to XL and also comes in the option of stripes or solids. The stripe version is available in the gray heather combo featured above, as well as the helix stripe combo, which is the photo showcases the back view of the sweater. The sweater is also available in Red Potato (cranberry color) and Licorice (dark gray). For more info on the Heartfelt Sweater and other Toad and Co. products, visit www.toadandco.com.
