Merrell Kaliopi Shorts Review
The Merrell Kaliopi shorts are great for hot summer days. They are lightweight and short enough to shed some light on my wintry white legs. They have a five inch inseam and come in four practical colors (read easy to match with almost anything); black, charcoal, birch and Cinder (looks like brown). The cut is super flattering with two button pockets on the backside and a fantastic discreet zipper pocket on the right hand seam. The zipper pocket is nice and deep and should hold cash, your ID and even a small trail map so that you don’t get lost.
I think the Merrell Kaliopi shorts ran a bit big so I would recommend trying them on if you can. If you like having pockets in the front for your hands you might take a pass at these shorts. But I think it’s the clean lines in the front that make them so flattering and don’t forget the lower pockets in the back. Somehow they managed to make my backside look better than usual. Worth the price of admission folks.
The only thing I would change about these shorts is the way they fasten. There are three buttons. I think two buttons would have been sufficient. They can be a bit cumbersome to fasten but that is a personal preference and not a defect. These shorts are very versatile. Not only would they be great for the trail but also for around town. I also think they would serve you well on a trip. That zipper pocket would be a great place to hide some Euros.
