Toad & Co Landscape Crop Review
Toad & Co (formerly Horny Toad), calls the Landscape Crop, “an outdoor capri in an elegant disguise.” I couldn’t agree more. The fabric of the Landscape Crop is ready for the great outdoors, while the style and cut of the crop can easily blend with around town use.
Toad & Co Landscape Crop Fit and Features
The Landscape Crop features a four pocket design, with two shallow front pockets lined with mesh, and two deeper rear pockets. The front pockets do not accommodate much. For example, you can’t stick your hands in your pockets, even if balled up. With that being said, I never put anything in these pockets as I was afraid the item would pop out, including car, house, or hotel keys. Fortunately, the rear pockets are deeper and my smartphone easily fits within. Toad & Co usually aims to provide a secure zippered pocket in most of their pieces, and the Landscape Crop is no exclusion. Behind the regular pocket on the right rear, their is a second pocket with a top zip (I’m pointing to it in the photo below!). I love this feature for travel to ensure you have a safe place to stash things.
Often times, hiking capris include a drawstring internal cinch or elastic waistband, which are a little less flattering in my book. The Landscape Crop features belt loops, which I love. My favorite Chaco webbing belt was easy to slip through and did the trick.
Toad & Co calls the fit of the Landscape Crop a slim fit, and I would agree. I own many garments by Toad & Co (formerly Horny Toad, as mentioned above) and always wear the same size. I therefore ordered that size and was a little thrown off by the fit. For starters, I have pretty muscular quads, no real hips or butt. With that being said, I was not a big fan of the Landscape Crop fit: the waist was a full two inches larger than any of the Toad & Co pants that I own. In addition, the pants really hugged my thighs, in an uncomfortable at first kind of way. After a few hours of wearing, the legs did stretch out, but I remained aware of them in the warmer temps and felt more restricted. My recommendation is to try these pants out before buying them, as you may find the fit a bit different and may need to adjust your size accordingly.
The length, however, is spot on. The Landscape Crop features a 22″ inseam, making it perfect for a variety of temperatures. The Landscape Crop has a slight flare and a small slit at the outer edge of the hem, which keep the pants from getting tight over the calves. This great attention to detail is why I have typically jumped for joy when testing Toad & Co products.
Toad & Co Landscape Crop Fabric
The Landscape Crop features Slickrock Stretch fabric, a Toad & Co proprietary fabric. The combination is 96% nylon and 4% spandex, making it extremely light weight, breathable, and quick drying. But that is not all, Toad & Co has included a DWR finish to make these water resistant and the fabric carries a UPF rating of 40+. The Landscape Crop is therefore ready for both sun and rain!
If you do find yourself getting wet, do not fear, the pants will dry as fast as your favorite board shorts. The fabric also comes from a bluesign system partner, meaning that the highest attention to detail has been made in all stages of the making of the fabric.
The Landscape Crop’s stretchy fabric shuns wrinkles, making it great for travel. My only wish is that the Landscape Crop were available in a few other colors, perhaps a chocolate brown, navy, or dark green. I tested the pant in Dark Chino, and despite the cut of a casual pant, I still felt like I was wearing a hiking pant due to the khaki color. Currently, Toad & Co also offers the Landscape Crop in a versatile Storm Grey.
The Toad & Co Landscape Crop retails for $86, which is in line with going rate for technical crop pants. Toad & Co also offers up the Landscape Short, available for $72 with many of the same great features as the crop.
