Finding the perfect pair of hiking pants can be a difficult task, but Mammut has made your search a whole lot easier with the introduction of the Fiamma Pants. Ideal for hiking, snowshoeing, backpacking, or traveling abroad, these pants have treated us very well.
The Fiamma Pants are made of a softshell material called SOFtech that is great for people with an active lifestyle. They are super stretchy which makes climbing over large logs or scaling rocks a cinch while hiking. Also, if you happen to do the splits in the mud or ice, you won’t have to worry about them ripping. The material is also breathable; if you feel like getting a little bit more ventilation, you can also push up the pant legs and cinch them with the bungee provided at bottom hem of the pant leg. Pushing up the pants did not happen often, but it was nice when it was a little too warm.
Another nice feature that we liked about the bungee style cuff was that we could tighten them around our boots when hiking in the snow. In the middle of Spring in Colorado, you can be hiking on dry dirt one moment and then a few hundred feet up the trail you can find yourself in a waist-deep snow drift. While summiting snow drifts, we found ourselves post-holing, which I would put just below trimming my nose hairs on the fun list. This is because it’s exhausting, slows you down, and you usually get a whole lot of unwanted snow in your shoes or boots. While hiking, other hikers in the group had boots full of melted snow, while ours stayed plenty dry due to this bungee system. On a 6-8 hour hike, having dry feet comes in quite nice.
To keep all your valuables to yourself, all pockets in the Fiamma pants are zippered, which is nice for those of you that worry about loosing keys, wallets, camera’s, etc. The zippered pocket down the side of the leg is nice for storing maps, cell phones, camera’s and just about anything else you don’t want making your hip pockets bulge. We found the sizing on these pants to pretty standard; Out tester is a 32×32 in pants and the medium fit just right. Belt loops come in handy and are standard in these pants and helps provide a customized fit.
The price on the Mammut Fiamma Pants are a little pricey retailing at $159, but if you are ok spending a few extra bucks for a long lasting quality product, you won’t be disappointed. For more information on the Fiamma Pants and other Mammut products, please visit www.backcountry.com/mammut.
This the most comfortable pair of hiking pants I own. They are super flexible making all movements easy and very breathable. You wont be disappointed that you wore pants on this hike in these. The bungee ankle cuff is very nice for needing to go through snow or if you need to roll up the legs a little. The pockets are all zippered which is great for me because things generally tend to fasll out of my pockets. They also have a big leg pocket which helps to get things out of your hip pockets that you dont want in your backpack.
