Sitka Canyon Jacket

Cold weather has set-in in a hurry here in the Colorado Rockies, and it is time to dig out the cold weather gear. Maybe even a better idea, would be to purchase the all new Sitka Canyon Jacket that is made for everyday use in cool weather.

For years Sitka has been a leader in hunting and outdoor gear. Their rugged apparel designs are made to take abuse in extreme conditions in the backcountry. Recently, Sitka has expanded their apparel offerings to meet the needs of everyday use in their Everyday Collection.

When I heard that Sitka was coming out with their Everyday Collection I jumped on the chance to try out their new offerings. For years, I have hunted in Sitka clothing and I have always been impressed by the durability, fit, and maybe most importantly the customer service that Sitka offers. This fall and early winter I have been wearing the new Sitka Canyon Jacket as my go-to everyday lightweight jacket.

Initial Thoughts on the Sitka Canyon Jacket

The Sitka Canyon Jacket is a light weight jacket made for everyday activities. The outer shell of this jacket is made with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish. Additionally, the outside layer also has a bit of stretch to it with about 13% of its construction made from elastine.

Within the jacket there is a modest layer of 100 grams of Primaloft Evolve. This insulation is made for breathability as well as keeping you warm when you are active.

The outside of the jacket has a snap front design to open and close. There are pockets located on the sides and on the chest and all three pockets all have zippers to keep any items secure inside the jacket.

The fit of the Sitka Canyon Jacket is pretty relaxed. I am 5’10 and 175 lbs. and the medium jacket is a perfect fit. I tend to wear a t-shirt or light long sleeve under this jacket. The sleeves of the jacket are a great length and are not too long or short when my arms are extended.

Field Testing

The Sitka Canyon Jacket has been a versatile piece of apparel for me. I use this jacket as my daily work jacket, my early morning dog walking jacket, even in a pinch my elk scouting and fishing jacket.

What makes this jacket so versatile is the great fit and breathability. The great fit makes it so this jacket comes with me on all my outings from the grocery store to the field. Additionally, the extra stretch makes arm movement and articulation very comfortable. The Primaloft insulation is awesome. This material acts as climate control. It keeps you warm but when your heart rate goes up, the Primaloft allows you to shed heat without getting too sweaty. For me this jacket is perfect for modest morning hikes with the dog.

Back Profile

The snap front of the jacket for me is ok. For me this is more of a personal preference. In general I tend to like a good quality zipper the best. However, the snaps are great quality and I would imagine that these would last for many years with little hassle.

I really like the deep lichen color. This color, and even the black color, can be used in so many situations. This is perfect for wearing to work or even sneaking up on an unsuspecting deer.

Although I have not had the opportunity much to do this, the Sitka Canyon Jacket would make a solid underlayer. This jacket does fit well under my heavy waterproof shells or even under a larger puffy jacket. I could see when the weather really turns cold that having this as an option would be a good move.
