Are you in the market for a comfortable yoga pant that isn’t one size fits all? If so, you should check out the Flextra Pant by Horny Toad. The Flextra Pant comes in not only 4 sizes, but it also allows the buyer to customize the leg length to get a more precise fit.
The inseam is 31″ for the extra small, 32″ on sizes small and medium, 33″ on size large and extra large. Please be aware that these pants can and will shrink in the dryer, even on low heat. So, if you are taller, keep that in mind and keep these pants out of the dryer and simply dry via a drying rack. I am on the taller side and found the 32″ inseam to be true to size/length.
If you are on the shorter side, you will love these pants as there are three different length options for each set of pants. When you purchase these pants the inseams are as above. If you find these pants on the long side you can wash and dry them to get about 0.5″ of shrinking. You can also cut the pants to match your desired length thanks to the incorporation of two additional banded stitching areas at the cuffs: the first band is about 2.25-2.5″ from the original cuff, while the second band is an additional 2.25-2.5″ higher. This means that you can make the inseam of these pants as short as 26″ for size XS, 27″ for sizes S and M, and 28″ for sizes L and XL or make the inseam somewhere in-between. The best part is that you will not have any real fraying or continued length loss, etc. As for sizing of the body, I inadvertently ordered a size up and they were big all around. If I had ordered the appropriate size, I believe they would have fit according to their sizing guideline. Oops!
The Flextra Pant is composed of 90% organic cotton and 10% spandex. The spandex helps keep the shape of these pants, however because the vast majority of the Flextra is cotton, so these pants do stretch out with all day wear. The fabric weight of these pants is about average when compared to other yoga pants that I have owned or tested. Light enough to offer some breathability, but heavy enough that they are comfortable when out walking the dog with temperatures in the mid 30’s.
According to the HT website, there is a small stash pocket in the back, along the waistband. Perhaps, they have changed their design and have yet to update the website, but I did not find a rear stash pocket, rather a front stash pocket on the right side. This pocket is incorporated to the waist band and when you place an item within the pocket it feels secure thanks to a larger horizontal design and a small overlap of fabric to help seal the space like an envelope pocket (yes, I took the pants off a couple of times to ensure that I did not have them on backwards or was missing something!) The waist band is comfortable and stays put during activity, my only beef is that the rise of these pants are a bit too high and land well above my hipbone. This may be a personal preference and I may feel differently if I had ordered the correct size, but you may want to keep that in mind if you typically prefer lower raised pants. My only other complaint about these pants is that the seams come to 4 way junction in the crouch area and that there is not a gusset. I have never really minded this much in other pants, but somehow when it comes to yoga it is nice to not worry about a seam pressing awkwardly while performing a pose.
The Flextra is only available in black at this time. I think other yogis would agree, that adding some other colors might also be nice to spice things up a bit. Overall, a comfortable pant with numerous sizing options, a must check out piece for gals seeking an organic cotton alternative to the one size fits most type of yoga pants.
