With Summer getting into full swing, having the right equipment to meet your needs is important as ever. In the summertime, we often worry about how our tents are going to hold up to wind storms, rain jackets repelling rain, trail running shoes providing enough traction, etc. The Exofficio Sol Cool Long Sleeve Shirt helps you through the summer in a couple ways. First, the shirts fabric has cooling properties to help regulate your body temperature. Second, this shirt has sun protection built into it to help you from the suns harmful rays.
Cooling Properties

Testing Exofficio Sol Cool Long Sleeve while running on the beach in Cabo San Lucas Mexico
Living in the Denver/Boulder area, temperatures often times hover between 80-100 degrees during the summer. The Exofficio Sol Cool Long sleeve incorporates Icefil technology which uses Xylitol as the main ingredient to help keep the body 5 degrees cooler. One thing that needs to happen to activate the Xylitol is for it to come in contact with liquid such as sweat. I’ve run with this fabric over the last 4 years now and I am happy to report back that it works in most cases. While using this shirt in dryer climates such as Colorado or Arizona, I find the shirt to help cool my body because I am sweating a little which activates the Xylitol material. When running in hot humid climates such as Florida or Mexico, I find that I become completely drenched in sweat after 10 minutes and it was hard to see the effects for me because I was focused on sweating so much. If you are in a hot and humid climate and NOT running or partaking in high exertion activities, the Sol Cool work better in my opinion because you still sweat, but not as excessive.
Sun Protection
Exofficio Sol Cool Long Sleeve Shirt incorporates UPF 50+ into the shirt, so if you’re out in the sun for long periods of time, this can be a skin saver. I recently went on a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and spent a lot of time around the pool relaxing and in the ocean while snorkeling. While I wanted a little color to kick off the summer, I wanted to make sure that I didn’t get too much sun. The end results of testing the Exofficio Sol Cool Long Sleeve Shirt for sun protection was that I didn’t come back with a sunburn.
Final Thoughts
The Exofficio Sol Cool Long Sleeve Shirt is definitely a shirt that I would recommend for all types of summer time or warm climate activities. This shirt meets the two main goals for me which is sun protection and trying to stay cooler. For more information, please visit www.amazon.com/exofficio.
