As a continuation of our previous reviews of The North Face Mountain Athletics, we add more products to the test. In this round, we tested out The North Face Mountain Athletics Quantum Duel Short and the Ampere Short Sleeve Crew Shirt. Typically when I think of TNF gear, I think of lightweight and technical. From the products I’ve tested from the Mountain Athletics line so far, the products the line are often times beefy and super durable which helps the gear hold up better to activities such as cross fit and other gym activities.
Mountain Athletics Quantum Duel Short Review
If you’re rough on your clothing and need it to stretch 360 degrees, the typical running short or gym short won’t always do the trick. The Quantum Duel short is made with a thick woven stretch material that will last for years and years. I’ve worn these shorts to the gym dozens of times using them for typical gym activities such as push ups, sit ups, lunges, squats, and a plethora of others. The shorts stuck with me on every move with some assistance from the boxer brief liner. To keep everything in place down there, the Mountain Athletics Quantum Duel Short has a snug boxer brief so whether you’re jumping from side to side, front to back, up and down, or all of the above, no issues…
There are two mesh side pockets to store items such as phones, wallets, energy bars, or any other pocket items. There is a pocket for a smartphone, but with a case on my iPhone 5 I had a hard time fitting it in. The length of these shorts is 9″ and has your typical elastic waist that you get in most athletic shorts. As for running, these shorts can handle 3-5 miles, but if you are planning on running longer, I typically like standard running shorts such as the TNF Better Than Naked Series.
Ampere Short Sleeve Crew Shirt Review
While many tech shirts look similar from the outside, please take my word that they are not all created equally. I’ve tested this shirt out at the gym, on road and trail runs, and hiking and have been completely satisfied with it’s performance. For tech tees, I believe that they should be able to be used for many different activities and the Ampere Short Sleeve Crew can do just that.
The Mountain Athletics Ampere Short Sleeve Crew Shirt is made with TNF’s material called Flash Dry is what the name suggest, it dry’s out in a flash. This material is used all over TNF product lines and I am happy to report that it truly works. The material pulls moisture away from the body which has plenty of benefits such as keeping you dry and more comfortable and in cool whether, sweat can sit of your body and eventually chill you. Along with Flash Dry, this shirt also uses body mapping in the area of the arm pits so you won’t wear that area out since it gets the most friction.
How the Gear Fits
The Quantum Duel Shorts have a standard fit and the Ampere Short Sleeve Crew Shirt has a standard fit. I am 6’0 and weigh 173lbs and found the medium size in the shorts and shirt to fit perfect.
Final Thoughts
The North Face continues to add more and more to our closets and there is a good reason for that. The gear they make is well thought out and high quality. The Mountain Athletics Collection is exception to the superb design and quality.
