Patagonia Rock Guide Shorts Review
Spring is in the air, trees are budding, flowers are blooming, and rising temperatures have you looking for a new favorite pair of shorts for the upcoming warmer months. Although the name might scare off a few people, we promise you that you don’t have to be a rock climber or guide to wear these shorts. We wore these shorts a lot for hiking because they are lightweight, breathable, and have some spandex in them to allow the shorts to stretch when you need them to. We also found ourselves wearing the shorts to spring and summer bbq’s, playing Frisbee in the park, and learning the craft of slacklining.
Not only do these shorts perform well for everyday activities, but they are also fairly technical for you gear heads. Though it’s not a must for many people, the Rock Guide Shorts come with a DWR finish that helps keep shorts from wetting out while getting caught in a rain storm. To keep your wallet in your pocket, these shorts come with a rear zippered pocket to help you from loosing your valuables. In case you get caught in cold weather while out hiking, the Rock Guide Shorts are also equipped with soft hand warmers in the pockets. All this in a pair of shorts, not too shabby!!
One thing Patagonia has done a good job with over the years is developing products that perform well in the field, yet look good when out in public and the Rock Guide continues this tradition for the most part. If we could change one thing in the shorts, it would be to make the shorts flair out a little more near the bottom, creating less of a straight leg fit for a more free range of motion. This being the only complaint, we were very happy to test out the Patagonia Rock Guide Shorts.
