Looking for a piece of gear that works well on the cool summer nights on the town and is a great lightweight softshell for your active lifestyle? We know that this is pretty specific, but in general, the Helly Hansen Barrier Softshell looks cool for in the city and performs great technically for all your outdoor activities. The barrier softshell is a lightweight piece that will keep you warm in cooler climates to about 0 or 40 degrees F and also works great as a baselayer. There are tiny wholes near the armpits to help vent and keep you cool when you’re building up heat. We found these handy as we went uphill to let out a little of the heat. One of the downfalls to the jacket is the lack of pockets. There is only one pocket and we typically like more pockets for food, camera’s, and cell phones. We didn’t find this to be too much of a hassle though, for we were able to stash anything that didn’t fit in a pocket in our daypack. Overall, we really enjoyed this jacket as it is multifunctional by being a nice technical piece of gear and is easy on the eyes for leisure activities.
