The North Face Kilowatt Pant Review
For the more than casual gym-goer, it can be difficult to find long-sleeve shirts and pants that do not restrict mobility. Enter Mountain Athletics, an apparel collection by The North Face that is designed to be worn by outdoor athletes during their training programs. This review will focus on the Kilowatt Pant (to read about a Mountain Athletics hoodie, click here).
Fabric
The fabric is made of 73% nylon, 17% polyester, and 10% elastane. The fabric is actually quite comfortable for an exercise pant, and I have had no problem wearing these around while running errands. In addition, there are a couple strategically placed mesh ventilation panels for added breathability, which is always a good feature in a pant.
Performance of The North Face Kilowatt Pant
These pants are engineered for range of motion, and that is where I found them to be most impressive. For many semi-fitted pants, it is difficult to do lateral movements without the pants getting in the way, specifically in the hip. Think side lunges. I have worn The North Face Kilowatt Pant through one of the ultimate range of motion activities: CrossFit. I am happy to say that they did not once get in the way while doing the various movements that come up in CrossFit. I have also found these to be a good pair of running or hiking pants, to get through the chilly spring mornings.
I have been through some brush while wearing these pants, but nothing too sticky. In either event, they have yet to rip, so I will have to agree with The North Face that they are made of abrasion resistant fabric.
Other Features
The North Face Kilowatt Pant comes equipped with two zippered pockets, each of which is big enough for a phone or wallet. You may have heard me gripe in other reviews about the lack of secure storage in a pant, so this is a big plus for me. The Kilowatt Pant has a drawcord at the waist to tighten up the pant for your workouts. I found this helpful, as my size medium pants would have been slightly too loose without being tied off (I am a 32″ waist).
Also, they come with a lifetime warranty.
Final Thoughts
If you are looking for a pair of pants that can be used for all of your workout needs, The North Face Kilowatt Pant is a great place to start. I cannot elaborate how happy I am with the range of motion that this pant allows.
