The North Face ThermoBall Remix Vest is perfect as an extra layer on a cool fall or spring day, or over a base-layer as an added insulating layer for winter conditions. This vest keeps your core toasty without making you look or feel like a marshmallow. The North Face ThermoBall Remix Vest is one of the many pieces offering ThermoBall Insulation.
ThermoBall™ Insulation and Fabric Features
My counterpart here at ActiveGearReview, just put out a great in depth review about this technology with the ThermoBall Remix Jacket. Please see his review here. The North Face ThermoBall Remix Vest features ThermoBall™ insulation throughout the core, which offers up warmth in a lightweight package that continues to insulate even if it gets wet from sweat or the elements. This piece of apparel utilizes PrimaLoft® Silver Insulation Eco in the shoulder area, where less loft and warmth is needed.
The ThermoBall Remix Vest features bluesign® approved fabric. I am unsure if this means that all of the fabric within the vest is indeed backed by the bluesign® approved status. Or if that is describing the 60g PrimaLoft Silver Insulation Eco that is incorporated into the insulation at the shoulders. For those that are unfamiliar with the term, bluesign® approved fabrics means that at least 90% of the materials used comply with the environmental and safety requirements of the bluesign® criteria. In the future, I hope to see The North Face (and other companies) push to obtain the bluesign® product designation, which means that all components of the garment, including zippers, bungees, etc meet the highest sustainability mandates. Either way, the fabric incorporated into this vest keeps you warm, has quality construction, and durability with 15D nylon ripstop.
The North Face ThermoBall Remix Vest Size and Feel
As I have mentioned in previous reviews, The North Face website features a handy dandy, and extremely accurate size guide/tool. You simply input the following specs: height, weight, age, bra size, abdominal and hip shape, and voila, The North Face helps you decide the best size to go for based on the cut of the garment. I found that ThermoBall Remix Vest fit was spot on. The vest is available in XS to XL and features a tailored cut, which eliminates the boxy feel that many vests and puffy jackets offer for women. The North Face also added a bit longer center back length of 25.5″, to help ensure that their are no awkward gaps or cools spots with low rise hiking pants or jeans. The hem-cinch cord helps keep out the chill as well. The arm openings are plenty generous and never got in the way with my activities.
When wearing the ThermoBall Remix Vest, you almost forget it is on. It is not only light-weight, coming in at 9.5 oz for a size medium, but the tight quilting of the insulation helps keep a low profile too. The North Face Thermoball Remix Vest is therefore very easy to layer without creating bunching or feeling bulky. New for this year, the ThermoBall Remix Vest has eliminated ThermoBall insulation at the shoulder area and placed PrimaLoft Silver Insulation Eco there instead. For the vests that are two toned, it is relatively easy to spot the change as it coincides with the change in color. For the solid color vests, the quilting pattern disappears in this area. Utilizing the PrimaLoft Silver Insulation Eco, there is less loft in the areas that you don’t need as much insulation, which helps to reduce bulk around the neck and coincides with where pack straps typically land.
The North Face ThermoBall Remix Vest Features and Specs
I have been wearing the The North Face ThermoBall Remix Vest non-stop this Fall/Winter season; both off and on the trail. When not in use, the vest can be packed away in its’ own pocket to reduce space and offer protection. The North Face ThermoBall Remix Vest is available for both men and women. For women, The North Face offers up not only your basic black and gray, but pops of pink and blue can also be found with the vest in Cerise/Rambutan pink and Coastline/Tech blue. For men, the ThermoBall Remix Vest is available in a light and dark gray, black, orange, blue, and a red/gray combo.
