The ISIS Nimble Anorak Pullover Jacket is an ideal jacket for someone seeking a versatile layer for just about any season. The Nimble Anorak can be used as an outer layer for the in-between seasons, such as spring and fall, or as an insulating for the colder months, such as during Winter. The pullover style allows for easy layering with a vest or outer shell because it eliminates the bulkiness that you sometimes may get from multiple zippers and hems hitting in the same area. Some may think that a pullover is a hassle to get on and off, especially when wearing hats, helmets, etc. This was not the case because ISIS included a 12.5″ zipper, which is a little less than 1/2 zip (by a few inches) which makes the off and on quite easy. The 1/2 zip design is also nice because if you do start to heat up, unzipping to below your sternum can really help dissipate heat. If you find yourself in the opposite situation, dropping temperatures, the Nimble Anorak can be zipped up and fits tightly, not overly tight as in you get a choking sensation, but tight enough that cool air does not enter all that easily. The collar also features velvet lining, which is a nice touch.
Just underneath the front zipper, a large front zippered compartment begins. ISIS calls this a “handwarmer pocket”, I found this kangaroo styled pocket to be perfect to stash my gloves in when the temps starting to warm up. If you are hiking, you really can stash just about anything in this pocket: energy bars, cell phone, gloves, etc. The pocket is approximately 12 inches from end to end and features a zipper at each end. Just remember to zipper both sides if you plan to stash any valuables. I wouldn’t recommend using this pocket for many items if you intend to use this jacket for winter running as you will feel quite a bit of bounce due to the large nature of the pocket.
The Nimble Anorak also features Lycra cuffs to keep your sleeves in place while on the go. I found the elastic to be a bit too tight for me and I by no means have big wrists, probably small to average at most. An easy to fix, which is basically damaging your coat on purpose, is to cut a small area along the elastic. By doing this task you do render the elastic nearly useless, but it has kept my wrists a bit happier. I had hoped that the elastic would stretch out with time, but it has not.
The Nimble Anorak is available in two new colors this season, Zest (bright yellow) and Atomic (bright orange, featured above). I tested the jacket in Kismet (deep purple) and found it to be brighter than the photos on the web. If you are more conservative with your color selections, the Nimble Anorak is also available in basic black.
To assist you with purchasing the perfect size, please see the size guide below. Many products by ISIS are available in sizes 2-18. This jacket, however, is available in standard XS to XL. Based on the size guide, I tested out a size small and found that the jacket ran true to size and was not overly boxy, like many pullovers.
|Chest at underarm||32.5″||33.5″||34.5″||35.5″||36.5″||38″||39.5″||41″||42.5″|

Now that I have touched on the features of the jacket itself, how about the fabric and performance? The Nimble Anorak is composed of ISIS’ Jet Lite 100% polyester outer and filled with 60g Thermacool™, which is a down-like synthetic, also made of polyester. The outer layer is indeed water resistant and has handled some early season flurries without a problem. The synthetic inner layer keeps you warm even if slightly dampened by the elements. The thick and thin threads of Thermacool work together to trap heat and give some loft to the jacket. This jacket is incredibly light, surprisingly warm, and can easily be compressed into a tiny ball to throw in your pack. I have tested this jacket in when the temps plummeted to 30s and 40s and was comfortable hiking with a simple mid and base-layer underneath. Come winter, this piece will fit nicely under one of my shells with ease.
The ISIS Nimble Anorak retails for $149 and is an excellent choice for women seeking a versatile layer for just about any outdoor pursuit.
