Like most of the items in Lucy line-up the Dashing Dots Half Zip melds workout wear with casual, everyday wear by blending technical materials with fashionable cuts and details. This top is new to the line and is meant for gals who are on the go, but are wanting something more than the basic long sleeve half zip top.
Lucy Dashing Dots Half Zip Materials
Made of a very soft 100% polyester material, the Dashing Dots Half Zip is very comfortable, breathable, and moisture wicking. One side of the fabric feels like a soft, worn-in cotton, while the other side has a perforated mesh material which helps with the moisture transfer and breathability. The mesh faces the interior of the top in most areas, but is reversed around the elbows, under the arms, and down the center of the back. This makes those areas slightly more breathable, but not substantially. The reversed material seems to be more for aesthetics than for function.
The material provides warmth, but I found it was best as an extra layer during a warm up at the gym or cool days that hover in the mid 40 and up. The material doesn’t provide much protection against the wind which I found fine especially while running on those cooler, but sunny days.
Style & Cut
As mentioned previously, the Dashing Dots Half Zip is more of stylish crossover piece that can go between gym and errands, mostly because of the stylish details. The neck isn’t a fitted mock neck like many half zip tops, but rather more of an open cowl neck. The shoulders feature a raglan style cut with no seams directly on the shoulder making the fit less restricting and eliminating the opportunity for seams to rub. Along the sides of the torso the Dashing Dots Half Zip has two drawstrings running vertically so the side length can be adjusted a bit. I found that while actually working out in this top, the drawstrings came untied easily. Lastly, the seams all of which are flat, are sewn in a contoured asymmetric pattern across the back.
Features of the Dashing Dots Half Zip
Aside from the stylish details this top has thumb holes in the cuffs, reflective details line the neck zipper, and an interior media pocket in the center of the lower back. The reflective details are minimal, a stripe along the neck zipper, so I wouldn’t rely solely on this small detail if running in populated areas in low light. The media pocket is a nice addition, but is challenging to access while the top is on since it is an envelope style pocket on the inside of the top.
Fit
The Dashing Dots Half Zip runs true to size, but is a roomier cut than many workout tops, so don’t expect it to be slim fitting. As a shorter person, the sleeve length was good, but a bit short to comfortably utilize the thumb holes in the cuffs, especially while running or moving a lot. Ladies with longer limbs may not even be able to use them at all.
Overall
For its intended use as a fashionable crossover top, the Dashing Dots Half Zip does a good job. If you’re looking for a technical piece for high intensity workouts, this isn’t your top, but if you’re looking for something cozy to throw on for a brisk walk, hike, light run, a warm up, or a few errands the Dashing Dots Half Zip is a great option. It is soft, comfortable, stylish, and still provides breathability and moisture wicking properties.
