Tilley Coolmax® Extreme Tank and Briefs Review
When you hear the name Tilley, you typically don’t think of undergarments. Rather, you think about hats, like the Tec-Wool Cap that my partner in crime reviewed a few weeks back. However, much to our surprise, Tilley offers briefs and tanks made from Coolmax® fabric.
The Extreme Tank, featured in the photo above, is quick drying, breathable, and lightweight, making it a perfect piece for traveling. It is available in white and black and can be worn by itself (black color only) on hot days or layered for added warmth during cooler travel excursions. I have been testing out the white tank and feel that I would not be comfortable in wearing it solo, it is pretty slim fit and has lots of breathable openings or mesh-like appearance, making it a little too see through for my tastes. However, the tank has been extremely handy for wearing as my first base layer this fall season.
We also tested out the Extreme Briefs, featured below. The briefs also come in black and white, and I was not a huge fan of these. Mostly because of the seams at the waist and leg openings; if you are paying $22/pair, I would like to see flat-lock seams that are less bulky and don’t show when worn with closer fitting pants. Pants these days primarily have low-rise or sit on your hips, and unfortunately these briefs are true briefs with a higher rise than my pants on occasion. Overall, these briefs were not for me.
Both the Extreme Tank and Briefs are easy to wash and dry extremely fast; I did not time the drying time. However, if you wash them at night, even in a humid environment, they will be dry by morning. We did some field testing in North Carolina in August, need I say more. The Coolmax® fabric is super durable as well, and looks like new after many washes and wears.
To sum it up, Tilley’s Coolmax® Extreme Tank and Briefs are worth a look before you head off for your next travel adventure, as they are breathable, comfortable, and easy to wash n wear.
