The First Ascent Frontpoint Jacket is a great all mountain jacket that combines soft and hard shell technology to provide an excellent barrier that can handle the harsh winter elements. The hood, sleeves, and shoulders are made of WeatherEdge Pro a hardshell fabric that is waterproof and rugged. We found the jacket to be incredibly breathable, while also allowing for easy moving thanks to the stretchy softshell fabric throughout the body of the jacket. The Frontpoint touts a 20,000mm/20,000g water repellency and breathability rating; we felt this jacket performed well on our weekend long testing bouts, however we did not sustain 24 hours of continuous moisture, which is used in the lab to verify water repellency. Testers liked the soft fleece lined pockets that kept their hands cozy on extra blustery days. In addition, testers really liked the Hinge Hood, which easily fits a ski or climbing helmet and the high collar to keep your face warm and dry when the weather changes. The jacket has a nice feminine stream lined fit while also accommodating extra layers, such as a First Ascent Down Sweater. We felt that the Frontpoint Jacket, despite weighting a mere 15.2 oz, can serve as an excellent outer shell for winter pursuits or a great spring/fall companion for high intensity activities in questionable weather. Overall, another nice piece from Eddie Bauer’s First Ascent line! For more information on the First Ascent Frontpoint Jacket, please visit www.eddiebauer.com or www.amazon.com/eddiebauer.
