The Muc-Off Ultimate Bicycle Cleaning Kit
And by “Ultimate”, they aren’t kidding! This Muc-Off Bicycle Cleaning Kit takes the cleaning and maintenance of a bike to the next level. Initially, I thought of this entire tool box and its contents as a way to clean my bike. In reality, it’s so much more than that when you factor in the element of protecting and lubing all the important parts. This investment will literally add years of enjoyment to your bike if you use the Muc-Off Bicycle Cleaning Kit on a regular basis.
The Entire List Of Goodies In My Muc-Off Ultimate Bicycle Cleaning Kit

The list above shows what is included in the Muc-Off Bicycle Cleaning Kit. I received a couple of extra goodies more suited to my high desert climate. Muc-Off is based in the UK, and their weather is quite different. I’m in Denver, hence, I got the C3 ceramic Lube *Premium Dry and the Dry Lube. These are perfect chain lube lubricants for our dry and dusty front range plains as well as high altitude mountain riding. Plus, I got the Chamois cream for helping “grease” a sensitive contact body point.
Putting the Muc-Off Ultimate Bicycle Cleaning Kit To The Test
I once had an entry level bike with granny gears and cheap components. Now, I have a stealthy carbon frame adorned with a top end groupset. I once had heavy uncomfortable shoes. Now, I have sleek, lightweight, Boa equipped pedals with a stiff carbon sole that drives some serious power into those pedals. And lastly, I had some very basic cleaning tools for my bike. This consisted of an old toothbrush, dish brush, white undershirt, dish soap, brake engine degreaser (very bad), and a hose to clean up my bikes. The arrival of the Muc-Off Bicycle cleaning kit is definitely a welcome addition to my garage.

On the left is what I used to have, and on the right is my new and rather complete cleaning and care kit.
It doesn’t matter If you are a beginner or an experienced rider, this will be an item that simply belongs in your garage. Anytime I upgrade or take something to another level, I’m always amazed at what it can do, and wonder why I haven’t had it from the get-go. It’s a learning curve coupled with budget restrictions, I suppose.

5 bikes got the royal treatment. The kids bikes also got some much needed attention.
For one, the tool box keeps me quite a bit more organized. I only have my act together to some extent as my tools and cleaning supplies are in several places in my garage. Now, I know that my cleaning tools are ready for action without that exhaustive search through numerous bins, shelves, and cabinets.

There’s nothing more beautiful than sparkly clean and shining US made Titanium steel.
Cleaning my bikes is not something that happens on a regular basis. I know I should, but I usually spend more time thinking about it than it actually takes to clean a bike. The point is that cleaning my bikes needs to be more of a routine. It’s something you make a habit of like brushing your teeth. In doing so, it will certainly prolong the life of my bikes.

A slow project is the rebuilding of my first ever road bike, a mid 80’s Bianchi Premio. It’s been sitting for 20 years with layers of crud.
One Sunday afternoon, I thought I would tackle the triumvirate of bikes in my stable along with a long awaited project. First of all, my road and TT bikes see a good portion of riding time. Aside from the occasional puddle they don’t really get dirty. My “adventure” bike (feel free to insert cross, gravel, dirt, or groad bike) really does need a more regular cleaning. In addition, my original road bike from college, a 1986 Bianchi Premio is going to be real test. It has been abused, left to die, and simply forgotten. A good cleaning for all these bikes is a good start.
The TT bike is now 10 years old. In triathlon terms that might as well be a classic vintage bike. She still looks good, and wouldn’t you know it, I crushed my PR for a half Ironman by nearly 10 minutes. I know the legs and lungs probably had something to do with it, but I’m proud of my machine and how she handled. Cleaning her was not really a big chore, but the drivetrain did have a nice coating of dark grime. It took a few rounds of spray, brush, and rag treatment, but she was nice and sparkly in no time at all.
Over the years, I have simply built up a resistance to that uncomfortable seating position. “Saddle time” is what they say you need. It takes a slow build up of miles on that hard piece of carbon or plastic with a thin liner thrown on for kicks. Hence, the Luxury Chamois Cream immediately saw action. I had two consecutive days of 50+ mile rides thrown in, and the cream sure did help. It smells nice which is a good thing! More so, the comfort of my ride wasn’t even in question for the duration of my 3 hour rides. Climbing steep hills hurt, but the nether region never protested at all.
Coincidentally, in this same half Ironman race, I put the chamois cream to the test. Last year I participated in a full Ironman, and the nether regions paid dearly for 112 miles of constant pressure. For the half, it’s still 2.5 hours in a very aerodynamic body position. I applied the lubrication before the swim, but with time in the water I didn’t think it would survive until the bike. Hence, I actually squirted a little bit on my stem. I figured I could apply some as I got started on the bike. About a mile into the bike, I discreetly put some on. I didn’t give it another thought until well after the race, because I did not have any issues at all. This was truly a surprise to me as I always have some soreness after a race. I now swear by the Muc-Off Chamois Cream.
