Silca Seat Roll Grande Americano
Out of the box this was quite the compact package, but when opened up, it provided three good sized pockets for my support gear.
How come the Americans always get the Grande designation…. I concur when it comes to some unfortunate eating habits, but in this case, Grande is GRAND! The bike packing crowd has definitely pushed the envelope as to what you can fit on your bike. The average dude out there wanting to go for a 2 -8 hour excursion still needs a fair amount of gear, and it has to be packed tightly. That is my big “must-have” or “must-be-able-to-do”. I don’t want my stuff bouncing around, because my rides take me on crazy excursions. As a result, the gnarly rocks I encounter, or hair raising descents can be tackled without issues. When all the accessories are tucked away, I’ll be happy.
Taking The Grande Americano For a Roll
Stuff it in, fold it up, tighten the strap around, slide the boa strings/pad through your seat rails, tighten, and you’re off. Fairly simple. I played around with various positions, but ultimately, the Silca Seat Roll Grande Americano will cinch itself into place.
This newer and bigger version has been designed for the ever growing gravel crowd. Slightly larger than its predecessor to be able to carry larger tubes (or an extra one).
We all know about Boa at this point, I just never thought I’d see it anywhere other than my feet. That said, it is kind of nice. Although we do have the one Velcro strap which bundles everything together, the Boa Strap tightens everything down a bit further as it connects the bag to the bike. Just turn it as tight as you can and off you roll, Grande Americano Style. Push to release, pull out, grab your gear, stuff it back in, and repeat. Simple!
My Adventure Bike, a Rodeo Labs Flaanimal (www.rodeo.com), is seeing more time exploring magnificent pockets of the Colorado mountains. With those endeavors, comes the need to bring more support gear. I do like to travel light, but you just never know what you’ll need. We are still socked in with snow, but the snowy roads off the beaten path do provide for a fun playground. I partook in a race a few weeks ago: the Old Man Winter Rally, and hundreds of my fellow riders tackled the cold while hitting just about every surface condition imaginable. This ride includes a socked in snow trail which requires about 1-2 miles of hike a bike. Lots of pushing, carrying, bumping, and my Silca Seat Roll stayed put.
One thing I would really like to see from Silca for the Seat Roll. The strap that bundles the package has a velcro closure system. I think there needs to be a longer strip of it to be able to tighten or loosen the package based on what I am carrying at the moment. Currently, there is a small patch that works fine, but if you only want to carry a little amount of gear, the bundle may be a little loose.

In Conclusion: Why You Need The Silca Seat Roll Grande Americano
Your typical seat bag can hold the basics. It has worked for me for years. Since, I am now going on longer adventure excursions, I need more stuff to bring along. The Silca Seat Roll provides that extra punch without necessarily sacrificing added space. Add items that are needed for basic repairs when there is a moment to stop and address them. For the size, and amount of tools it can carry, it is the most impressive seat bag I’ve seen to date. Definitely worth taking a look at. They have various size options, so check it out.
