The Reggie Lightning Vest.
This vest is loud, bright, and proud. I’ll review it for its fit, comfort, and material quality. In all reality, the Reggie Lightning Vest is all about its design and visibility factor. Please take notice.
Sizing
Vest sizing and fit is a challenge at times. Reggie recommended going a little smaller, and it works for me. This is definitely a race fit, but when I’m working hard in my group, I do not want any extra material flapping all over the place. I have worn vests that become like parachutes, and that did not occur here.
Testing The Reggie Lightning Vest
If you need to dump some sweat, or increase the air flow, one can obviously zip down. However, did you know the double zipper system allows you to also unzip from the bottom.
Visibility it superior! The highway safety vest influenced colors are quite noticeable. The design is awesome of course. The added colors are also very distinct. I like how the front fabric strip that covers the zipper has this gradient color change from Orange the Pink. My girls think it’s funny that I’m sporting some pink colors, but I like it. Being that I’m outnumbered by my ladies in my house hold, I’ve embraced the more feminine colors. I certainly don’t mind sporting them on my rides, as pink adds to the safety factor.
The two pockets in the back are big enough for a tube/cartridge combo in one, and my phone slips nicely in the other one. The elastic stretch band across the bottom back has a solid gripper system in place to prevent any mid ride bunching or sliding even in an aggressive position. The back has a mesh system that allows for airflow and prevents the sweat build up.
One final somewhat unfortunate and unexpected benefit from the Reggie Lightning Vest came during a mid ride crash. Hitting the pavement is never a good thing, but comes with the territory as I tend to ride in a big fast morning Peleton a couple of times per week. Denver’s Park Hill Peleton is a very popular hammer fest, and I was taken out by a rider that drifted into a fast charging pace line. My pavement hugging slide was Superman-like. I believe we were going around 28 mph at the time, so the road rash damage is significant. My vest hardly looks touched and likely saved my chest and belly from further damage.
Final Illuminating Thoughts On The Reggie Lightning Vest
The Reggie Lightning vest is a form fitting, wind breaking, beacon of visibility that’s a must-have out on the roads. Material quality is top notch, and tested by yours truly while sliding across the pavement. Here’s hoping that my vest’s brightness and visibility alerts some distracted driver from taking me out.
