Aventon started of the year with two new ebike releases, the Aventon Abound which is their first ever cargo ebike and the Aventon Aventure.2 which is their second iteration of their very popular all terrain fat tire ebike. The new Aventure ebike keeps what was well liked from it’s predecessor and adds new features, components and tech updates that make it even better. Lets dig in and see what the Aventon Aventure.2 ebike has to offer.
Aventon Aventure.2 Ebike Unboxing
One big update comes on the packaging side of things, the Aventure.2 packing material is almost entirely recyclable, with no plastics or Styrofoam. Aventon is also part of the battery recycling coalition with Call2Recycle, to ensure that batteries are disposed of properly and safely, instead of polluting landfills. We applaud Aventon for these big moves and respect the fact that they are committed to being a more eco-friendly brand for our planet and future generations.
The Avenure.2 is delivered in a standard size ebike box and the new recyclable packing materials worked perfectly to keep at parts secure and the ebike safe on arrival. For assembly the Aventure.2 needed the handlebars, pedals, front fender and wheel installed. The build took about 10 minutes and all of the tools needed to put these pieces on the ebike were included in the accessory kit.
Aventon Aventure.2 Ebike Build
The Aventon Aventure.2 has a sturdy 6061 single-butted aluminum frame that elegantly houses the integrated battery – nearly unnoticeable in the frame. Powering the ebike is Aventon’s own 750 watt motor that is powerful and responsive, and thanks to the addition of a torque sensor the Aventure.2 will now match the rider’s pedaling efforts. The brakes are hydraulic disc brakes that provide excellent stopping power in any condition. The tires are 4″ fat tires that can handle any terrain and offer a smooth ride. The suspension fork has 80 mm of travel that absorbs bumps and shocks on rough roads. Rounding out the build is an 8 speed Shimano transmission and a stack of accessories and features, such as fenders, the rear rack, headlight, taillight, turn signals and a color LCD display.
The Aventure.2 is available in the traditional step-over and step-through frames as well as two sizes for each frame model: regular and large. The one that we are reviewing here is the large step-through frame.
Aventon Aventure.2 Ebike Torque Sensor
The addition of the torque sensor is the biggest update and one of the standout features of the Aventure.2. It makes the ride feel natural and smooth. You can enjoy the sensation of riding a regular bike, but with more power and range. The torque sensor responds to your pedaling power and matches it with the right amount of assistance. This way, you can save battery life and ride longer. The more you push yourself, the more the torque sensor helps you out by boosting your speed and control. The torque sensor is smart, adaptive and enhances your natural momentum with every pedal stroke.
Ebikes with cadence sensors or hybrid torques sensors are suitable and get the job done. But if you want that authentic bike riding experience you will want to get an ebike that has a true torque sensor. I can almost guarantee that once you try an ebike with a genuine torque sensor you will no longer be able to settle for a run of the mill ebike with an incohesive cadence sensor.
Aventon Aventure.2 Ebike Motor and Battery
The Aventon Aventure.2 ebike has a powerful and responsive hub motor that can handle almost any terrain with ease. It is a 750W motor that offers a peak power of 1130W, which allows it to reach speeds of up to 28 mph on pedal assist. The motor also has a torque of 80Nm, which gives it plenty of climbing ability and fast acceleration. The motor works with the torque sensor, which matches your pedaling force with the right amount of assistance for a smooth and natural ride. You can also switch between four levels of pedal assist and throttle, depending on how much effort you want to put in. The Aventon Aventure.2 750w motor gives you the power, speed, range, and control you need for any adventure, whether that is cruising on paved roads or exploring the trails, this motor does not disappoint.
The motor is powered by a 48V 15Ah (720Wh) lithium-ion battery that is integrated into the downtube on the frame, ensuring it’s secure and protected from the elements. The size of the battery falls into the higher end for capacity and can power the ebike for up to 60 miles on pedal assist, depending of course on riding conditions and riding style. The battery also has an intelligent management system that protects it from overcharging, over-discharging, overheating, and short-circuiting. The Aventure.2 comes with a 48V 3 Amp Fast Charger that can charge the battery on or off the bike and charges a depleted battery to full in about 5 hours. The Aventon ebike battery is reliable and has plenty of capacity to let you enjoy the ride without worrying about running out of juice.
Aventon Aventure.2 Ebike Brakes
The Aventon Aventure.2 has hydraulic disc brakes that provide smooth and powerful stopping power. The brakes are by Tektro, who is becoming a staple in the ebike world, and offer reliable performance and good durability. The brakes have 180 mm rotors that can handle high speeds and harsh conditions. Hydraulic brakes are the easiest to maintain and are the preferred go to when it comes to heavy ebikes. Whether you ride in dry or wet weather, mud or snow, the Aventon Aventure.2 brakes will keep you safe and in control..
Aventon Aventure.2 Ebike Full Color Display
Aventon’s Full Color Display is a smart companion for riders. It shows you all the essential information you need on your ride, such as speed, battery level, distance covered, and pedal assist mode. It’s vibrant colors and backlit features allow the display to be easily viewable whether in direct sunlight or a night.
The Aventure.2’s Full Color Display also syncs with the Aventon app on iOS and Android devices. This lets you access more data about your rides, like: total cycling time, total mileage, calories burned, max speed, average speed, CO2 emissions reduced and trees saved. Within the app you can change the Full Color Display’s brightness, set a timer for your ebike to turn off automatically, switch speed from mph to km/h, and also control the integrated lights. The mobile app also lets you increase the Aventure.2’s PAS top speed to 28 mph. In addition you can earn loyalty points through Aventon’s reward program for miles accrued with active enrollment and you can also connect with a larger Aventon community for some fun, healthy competition.
Aventon Aventure.2 Ebike Lights
The Aventure.2’s front and rear integrated lights can be turned on and off from the handlebar control pad. They provide effective viewability for dark and night riding on the road and trails, as well good visibility to let motorists and other cyclists know where you are. These lights can also be activated by using the Aventon mobile app.
Aventon Aventure.2 Ebike Turn Signals
Another new feature that Aventon included on the Aventure.2 is turn signals. With the press of a button on the handlebar controls, the rear lights will flash in the desired direction. The turn signals help communicate with drivers and other cyclists on the road, adding another level of safety and ride security.
Aventon Aventure.2 Ebike Rear Rack and Fenders
With the addition of a rear rack the Aventure.2 is ready to haul gear or groceries. With a carrying capacity of 400 lbs.(for cargo and rider), bike touring, bike camping, hunting, grocery getting are all on the table and the options are almost limitless with the right setup. The added protection of the fenders keeps riding more comfortable by protecting you and your gear from the majority of the water, dirt, mud and snow when riding in the elements.
Aventon Aventure.2 Ebike Ride Experience
The Aventure.2 ships as a Class II ebike, meaning it features both a throttle and pedal assist that can reach a maximum speed of 20 MPH. For some, that top speed is fine, but most of us want our ebikes to be able to be used to their full potential. Within the Aventon app, the Aventure.2 can be modified into a Class III electric bike, allowing it to reach a top speed of 28 MPH on pedal assist or even a little bit beyond that if you are will to put some pedal power effort into it.
Aventon has revamped their pedal assist levels with the Aventure.2. There are now 4 levels of PAS that have names according to how they feel. They are as follows:
- Eco – Get the most out of your battery life with a casual ride. This mode is more you than the motor.
- Tour – Perfect for a little pick-me-up for longer rides with less physical effort.
- Sport – Make moves by letting the motor do more of the work. Go up low grades without working so hard.
- Turbo – Get more power out of the motor and let the torque sensor amplify your momentum for quicker accelerations on flat surfaces and up steep hills.
Couple these modes with the Shimano Altus 8-speed drivetrain and the Aventure.2 delivers a smooth natural riding range that can easily tackle steep hills and fly fast on straightaways. Add in the thumb throttle for quick starts or tough and tight turns on the trails and the Aventure.2 really feels like the full package that can do it all.
Whether it is off road exploring trails, hitting the beach or commuting on concrete the Aventon Aventure.2 can handle any adventure. The responsive power, natural fluidity and stacked features on the Aventure.2 make it an enjoyable and fun riding experience.
