It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of e-bikes and I’ve had the privilege of trying out quite a few models over the years. Recently, I ordered up the Heybike Mars 2.0 to see what it is all about and I’m excited to share my thoughts and experiences with you.
Who is Heybike?
Heybike is a well-known brand in the e-bike industry. They are known for their high-quality, feature-packed e-bikes that are designed to make cycling more enjoyable and accessible for everyone. Their Mars 2.0 model is no exception and it has a range of impressive features, while coming in at a reasonable price. The Mars 2.0 is our fourth e-bike from Heybike to be reviewed, the other three models can be found here.
Unboxing the Heybike Mars 2.0
Unboxing the Heybike Mars 2.0 was standard fare. The e-bike arrived in a slightly smaller than normal e-bike box. It was well-packed with plenty of protective materials to ensure it wasn’t damaged during transit. It is clear that Heybike knows what they are doing on package, as all of their e-bikes have arrived unscathed.
Assembly of the Mars 2.0
The assembly process was straightforward, thanks to the detailed instructions provided by Heybike. The front tire, fender, pedals, rear rack, handlebars and seat needed to be attached. Heybike includes all of the tools necessary for assembly and within about twenty minutes the Mars 2.0 was ready to ride.
Build Quality of the Mars 2.0

Folding Frame Lever
One of the first things I noticed about the Mars 2.0 was its solid build quality. The bike’s frame is made from durable aluminum alloy, which gives it a sturdy and robust feel. Despite its substantial weight of 75 pounds, it’s surprisingly easy to handle, thanks to its well-balanced design and foldable frame.

Motor
The Mars 2.0 is powered by a 750W motor with a peak output of 1,200W. A 750W motor is pretty standard on fat tire e-bikes these days and one I would expect to see on this model. The motor provides ample power for tackling steep inclines, making my rides up hilly terrains a breeze. The torque of 80Nm also ensures a quick start and more power in less time.
Battery
- Fuel Gauge on the Battery
- On / Off Switch, Charger Port and USB Charging Port
The battery is conveniently located underneath the seat, which I found to be a clever design choice as it helps distribute the bike’s weight more evenly. It’s a 600Wh (12.5Ah, 48V) external removable lithium-ion battery and comes with a 2A charger. The 600Wh battery falls into the middle for sizing, but is appropriate for this e-bike. Charging takes about six to seven hours, which is typical for a 2A charger, which is not a big deal as I usually charge it overnight.
Brakes
The Mars 2.0 is equipped with 180mm mechanical disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels. I think this is a miss, as Heybike should have used hydraulic brakes on the Mars 2.0. But in order to keep the overall cost of the bike reasonable, they opted for mechanical ones. This is not to say that they are bad by any means, it is just that hydraulic brakes are the superior option, offering less maintenance and better stopping power. These brakes do provide reliable stopping power and I was able to stop the Mars e-bike quickly and safely when necessary.
Drivetrain
The bike features a Shimano 7-speed shifter, which provides a good range of gears for different terrains and riding conditions. Paired with the bike’s powerful motor and pedal-assist system, this drivetrain has made every ride smooth and enjoyable.
Tires
The Mars 2.0 sports 20-inch fat tires that are 4 inches thick. These tires offer excellent traction, making it easy to navigate rough terrains. Whether I was riding on pavement or gravel, the bike handled beautifully thanks to these wide tires.
Hydraulic Suspension
The front suspension fork on the Mars 2.0 has improved my riding comfort significantly. It does a great job of absorbing shocks and vibrations, making for a smoother and more enjoyable ride, even on bumpy trails.
Cockpit and Controls
The layout of the cockpit and controls on the Mars 2.0 is intuitive and user-friendly. The right side houses the 7-gear shifter and throttle, while the left features controls for the horn, light, and pedal assist control buttons. The LCD display in the center shows all of the important information like speed, distance, battery gauge, and pedal assist level.
Heybike App
The Heybike App for the Mars 2.0 is a comprehensive tool that greatly enhances the e-bike experience. The app’s interface is clean and easy to navigate, making it effortless for users to access key features such as tracking their riding statistics, controlling the bike’s settings, or planning routes. The GPS tracking is nice, with real-time updates and an accurate, detailed map that helps users navigate with ease.
Moreover, the integration between the app and the Mars 2.0 e-bike is seamless. Users can easily customize their ride settings, from pedal assist level to LED light control, directly from their smartphones. The app also provides useful firmware updates and alerts, helping riders to keep their e-bike up to date and in peak condition.
Seat
The seat of the Mars 2.0 is designed with comfort in mind. It’s equipped with a spring on the seat post to reduce shock from bumps, making for a more comfortable ride. There’s also a lever for moving the seat out of the way when installing or removing the battery.
Lights
The Mars 2.0 comes with a bright headlight and taillight for enhanced visibility during night rides and viewability during day riding. The lights can be easily controlled via buttons on the handlebars.
Rack
I was particularly impressed with the bike’s rear rack. Not only does it have a high weight capacity, but it also has a pegboard design, allowing me to easily attach bags or secure bulky items. This has made the Mars 2.0 an excellent choice for grocery runs and quick errands.
Heybike Mars 2.0 Folding and Storage
One of the standout features of the Mars 2.0 is its foldable frame. In just four simple steps, I can fold the bike in half, making it compact and easy to store. This feature has proven to be super convenient for me, especially when it comes to transporting the bike in my car.
Heybike Mars 2.0 Riding Experience – On and Off the Trail
Having the opportunity to pilot the Mars 2.0 bicycle across a wide and diverse range of terrains, and under an array of different weather conditions, I can attest to its excellent performance. The robust and powerful motor, when combined with the sturdy, resilient fat tires, contributes significantly to a ride experience that is both incredibly smooth and stable.
This remains consistent regardless of whether I’m leisurely cruising along a well-maintained, smoothly paved bike path. Or navigating a challenging trail that’s strewn with rocks and roots. In all situations, the Mars 2.0 has repeatedly proven itself to be a reliable and versatile ride, demonstrating its adaptability and resilience time and again.
