Does this machine warrant your hard-earned investment? In our Himiway Cobra Review, we put the bike through its paces to objectively evaluate its capability, durability, and rideability. We’ll go step by step highlighting crucial features, and impressive benefits, and even throw in personal experiences that will give you an authentic taste of the Cobra’s prowess. Let’s dig in and explore the ins and outs of the Himiway Cobra.
Himiway Cobra Unboxing and Assembly
The Himiway Cobra e-bike comes shipped in a standard size e-bike cardboard box. I didn’t catch the exact shipping weight, but the package is pushing right up against the 100 pound mark. As you open the box, you are greeted by meticulously packing that ensured everything inside was safe during transit. Every part of the Himiway Cobra is carefully secured and wrapped were necessary, emphasizing Himiway’s commitment to delivering a product in prime condition.
The e-bike is predominantly pre-assembled, which simplifies the assembly process immensely. Alongside the bike, you’ll find a user manual detailing each step of assembly, ensuring even a novice can get it ready for its first ride. The components that needed to be installed were the handlebars, front tire, front and rear lights, and the pedals. Assembly took me right around 25 minutes to get everything attached and adjusted.
Himiway Cobra’s Performance Breakdown
The performance of an e-bike is a critical determinant of its overall value. In this section, we dissect the Himiway Cobra’s key performance features and analyze how they contribute to its overall riding experience.
The Powerhouse: 750W Brushless Motor
The Cobra is equipped with Himiway’s own 750W brushless motor. This motor is not just about speed; it’s about raw power and quick acceleration. With a torque output of 86 Nm, this motor ensures the Cobra is quick off the mark and maintains a robust performance throughout the ride. This high level of torque is particularly beneficial for off-road riding, providing the extra push needed to conquer steep inclines and challenging terrains.
Speed and Pedal Assist
Once unlocked through the display, the Himiway Cobra has a top speed of 25 mph, placing it in Class 3 of e-bikes. Sadly, Himiway intentionally limits the top speed to only 25 mph, even though the motor is capable of speeds upwards of 28+mph. While those extra few miles an hour don’t take away from the overall experience, it is unfortunate knowing that I won’t be able to experience the actual top end speed of the motor. With five levels of pedal assistance (PAS), the Cobra is suitable for a range of riding conditions. The lowest PAS setting (PAS 1) provides sufficient power for a leisurely ride, reaching speeds of 18 mph, while the highest setting (PAS 5) quickly propels it to it’s top speed. This wide range of assistance levels adds versatility to the Himiway Cobra, making it suitable for both relaxed cruising and high-speed off-road adventures.
Battery and Range
Powering the Himiway Cobra is a large 48V, 20Ah Samsung/LG lithium battery integrated into the bike’s frame. This high-capacity battery provides an impressive range of 60-80 miles per full charge, depending on the pedal assist level and riding conditions. This extensive range makes the Cobra suitable for long off-road trips without worrying about running out of juice mid-adventure.
For an e-bike as large and heavy as the Cobra, a reliable braking system is non-negotiable. Himiway equips the Cobra with Tektro HD-E350 hydraulic disc brakes, a significant upgrade from mechanical disc brakes. These brakes provide consistent and reliable stopping power in various riding conditions, delivering safety during high-speed descents and sudden stops.
The Himiway Cobra features a 7-speed Shimano Altus derailleur, providing a versatile range of gear options for different riding conditions. This gear system facilitates smooth transitions between gears, ensuring a comfortable ride regardless of the terrain or incline.
Design and Features of the Himiway Cobra
Beyond performance, the design and features of an e-bike significantly affect its appeal and usability. Here, we explore the Himiway Cobra’s design elements and how they enhance its functionality.
Frame and Geometry
The Himiway Cobra features a robust 6061 aluminum frame, designed for durability and resilience. Its long wheelbase and tall standover height make it a sizeable e-bike, ideal for taller riders. However, these dimensions may make it challenging for smaller or less experienced riders to handle.
Full Suspension System
One of the distinguishing features of the Himiway Cobra is its full suspension system. The Cobra’s suspension setup, comprising of a hydraulic fork in the front and a Softtail Suspension with Four-Bar Linkage at the rear, sets it apart from many competitors. This configuration enables the Cobra to deliver a remarkably smooth ride, even on rough terrains.
The front suspension excellently absorbs shocks from uneven surfaces, preventing jolts from reaching the rider. This feature significantly enhances comfort and minimizes fatigue during long rides. The rear suspension, on the other hand, ensures stability by effectively managing weight distribution, especially when carrying heavy loads. Importantly, the adjustability of the front system allows riders to tweak it according to their weight and riding style, offering a personalized riding experience. The suspension system on the Himiway Cobra e-bike is meticulously engineered for comfort, stability, and durability. It undoubtedly contributes significantly to the bike’s overall high-performance rating.
Wheels and Tires
The Cobra rolls on 26×4.8-inch CST FAT tires. The tires on the Himiway Cobra e-bike merit commendation for their exceptional performance and durability. They are robust, designed to withstand different terrains, and deliver a smooth ride even on rough surfaces. The notable feature of these tires is their excellent grip, providing optimal control and stability for the rider. The tires’ design also complements the bike’s overall aesthetic appeal.
The cockpit on the Himiway Cobra e-bike is one of functionality. It boasts a sleek, ergonomic, and user-friendly layout that caters to the needs of cyclists of all levels. At the heart of the cockpit is a LCD display that provides all the necessary ride information. The display is clear and easy to read, even under direct sunlight, proving that Himiway has paid attention to the needs of riders who venture out during the day.
The cockpit also features an easy-to-access control panel that allows riders to manage the bike’s various operations without any hassle. It presents options for power assistance levels, headlight control, speed measurement unit selection and more. The buttons are responsive and well-spaced, reducing the likelihood of mis-clicks during a ride.
Furthermore, the handlebars on the Himiway Cobra e-bike are comfortable. They offer an excellent grip and are adjustable to suit different riding styles. The inclusion of a bell and light switch within easy reach shows that safety has been a priority in the design process. Additionally, there is a USB port for device charging, which is a thoughtful addition for those long rides or for commuters who use their phones for navigation.
The Himiway Cobra e-bike’s cockpit seamlessly integrates comfort and utility. It reflects a design ethos that puts rider experience at the forefront.
Riding the Himiway Cobra
Having dissected the Himiway Cobra’s performance features and design elements, it’s time to share my riding experience. The Cobra’s full suspension system and fat tires contribute to an ultra-smooth, comfortable ride, whether on pavement, gravel roads, or trails. Its steering does feel a bit different due to the uber wide fat tires, but it handles brilliantly, particularly on trails with soft sand. The bike’s ability to absorb shocks on rough terrain enhances the overall ride comfort, making it a great choice for off-road adventures.
The bike’s sturdy frame and geometry provide stability, and the 7-speed Shimano Altus derailleur offers a versatile range of gear options to conquer any riding condition. The 750W motor further enhances its performance, making it capable of tackling steep inclines with relative ease.
The pedal-assist feature comes in handy for longer distances, offering a seamless transition between manual and electric power that effectively extends your range without compromising on the enjoyment of cycling. One of the standout features of the Cobra e-bike is its 48V 20AH Samsung battery which absolutely delivers a long-lasting ride experience. A single charge can easily deliver over 60 miles of riding, this is of course dependent on the terrain and usage, but massively impressive by any standard.
On a personal level, the ride comfort and overall riding experience of the Cobra has been so exceptional, that this e-bike has become my daily driver. Additionally, the inclusion of front and rear lights adds an element of safety for night-time adventures. Overall, the Himiway Cobra e-bike provides a delightful and exhilarating ride experience that caters to both leisurely cyclists and adventure seekers.
Rear Rack for the Himiway Cobra
For those of you that might be wondering about the rear rack that is in the pictures. It is not included with the Cobra, this was add-on after I realized that the Cobra was going to end up as my daily driver. It is the Ibera Seatpost-Mounted Carrier Rack and it works fantastic. If you would like to learn more about it you can check it out at Amazon.
Himiway does also offer their own rack that is a perfect fit for the Cobra and mounts directly on the rear arm, but at the time of this review it was out of stock. That one can be found at www.himiwaybike.com.
Himiway Cobra vs Cobra Pro
Of note, the Himiway Cobra also has a Pro version, which boasts a Bafang M620 mid-drive motor providing 1,000 watts of power and a massive 160 Nm of torque. The Cobra Pro also features a more advanced suspension system, making it a more suitable choice for experienced MTB riders who enjoy technical trails. More info on the Pro model can be found at www.himiwaybike.com.
