We’ve recently tested out the Talon series by Osprey, in specific the Talon 11. We found this pack to be ideal for trail running, cycling, day hikes, snowshoeing, and just getting around town. Osprey really has gotten everything right on this pack, from the features, to the fit, to the durability. The Talon 11 is made of a lightweight, durable fabric with a stretch pouches on the sides and a bungee on the front for extra storage (great for stashing a lightweight jacket). We really liked the details that Osprey focuses on, such as the zippers. Zippers seem to be a simple feature on a backpack, but when it’s cold out or you are in a rush to get into your pack, it is nice to have an easy flowing zipper. With Osprey, you get zippers that are made of a durable plastic that cup your finger, giving you optimal leverage when opening portions of your pack. The Talon 11 also comes with load lifter system with easy snap on snap off accessibility for getting to your bladder. Although load lifters are a nice feature, we found that it might be a little much for this pack. Overall, all of our testers found this pack to be their go to pack for almost all of their activities and was a definite favorite. I have owned the Talon 44 for three years now. It is an ultralite pack that will not withstand cactus, catclaw and bushwacking, but I bought it for backpacking the maintained trails in the Grand Canyon. The Talon 44 is the most comfortable pack I own, and with its external straps, easily accommodates my sleeping pad, my ultralite down sleeping bag, my superlite tent, plus food and some water.
