Topeak PrepBox Testing: eBike Assembly and Maintenance

We tested the PrepBox and Torq Stick Pro while assembling and servicing several eBikes, including models from Mokwheel, Heybike, Puckipuppy, Juiced, and a Rad Rover fat-tire bike. However, when you move beyond standard service into more advanced repairs, there are a few tools that are commonly required but not included in the kit:

High-Torque Wrench (20–100 Nm): For axle nuts and motor mounts.
eBike Motor Spline/Socket Set: For pulling gears and accessing internal components.
Security Bit Set: Most eBikes use tamper-resistant Torx or proprietary fasteners (as seen above with the Rad motor).
Electrical Service Tools: Wire crimpers, plug disconnect tools, heat shrink tubing.
Bearing/Seal Press Kit: Useful for hub motors and pivot bearings.
Multimeter: For electrical troubleshooting.

These omissions aren’t faults of the kit…it wasn’t designed with eBike-specific service in mind…but rather points to consider as your repair skills and needs expand. For many users, they simply mark the next steps in building out a complete eBike maintenance setup.

If you’re building your toolkit from scratch, this is a strong investment…a foundation you can build on for years. But if your ambitions include full motor disassembly or advanced electrical service, you’ll need to expand beyond the box.
