Castelli DO.DI.CI Jacket Review

Castelli has been in the high-end cycling game longer than most of us have been pretending we don’t care about our FTP. Known for performance apparel that borders on obsessive engineering, the Italian brand has built its reputation on fast, technical gear that feels like it’s straight off a WorldTour team truck.

Enter the DO.DI.CI Jacket—a garment that somehow manages to be a jacket, a long-sleeve jersey, and a winter/shoulder season weapon in dry climates. In this review, I’ll dig into its features & benefits, talk through the fit, and help you figure out who this thing is actually made for. Spoiler alert: it’s not your “I ride when the weather looks questionable” type of piece. It’s more like the “I’m basically cosplaying as a pro today” type of piece.

Castelli DO.DI.CI Jacket Features & Benefits

Let’s start with the headliner: breathability. The DO.DI.CI doesn’t breathe…it’s a master of breathwork. This thing is so airy it feels like Castelli installed fans inside this thing. That’s a good thing, assuming the conditions support it.

Castelli DO.DI.CI Jacket Breathability

Compared to the Perfetto—Castelli’s gold-standard all-conditions wonder jacket—the DO.DI.CI is significantly lighter and more porous. While the Perfetto is like wearing a well-designed force field, the DO.DI.CI is more like wearing a second skin woven from espresso steam. It breathes better than the Perfetto, but also doesn’t shed moisture like the Perfetto. Herein lies the rub…if you ride mostly in cool and dry conditions, the DO.DI.CI is worth a serious look. If you do end up in the rain from time to time, I’d personally lean toward the Perfetto as it’s just more versatile.

Castelli DO.DI.CI Jacket is 12x More Breathable!

12x More Breathable!

I put this thing to the test, and on a day that started out at 47°F and peaked at 68°F I wasn’t as miserable as I would have been in a jacket that didn’t breathe as well. Normally, wearing a jacket in those temps guarantees one outcome: you become a human saucepan. But I didn’t melt. I was warm, sure—but not suffocated. And that’s the magic here: you get genuine insulation without cooking alive like you’re inside a Costco rotisserie chicken.

Also, the jackets stretches incredibly well, but know it’s a race fit (see the “FIT” section) and be ready to show those abs (or lack thereof).

DO.DI.CI vs. Perfetto: A Tale of Two Jackets

If the Perfetto were a character, it would be the sensible, capable, well-rounded one—like the Mandalorian: armored, reliable, handles chaos with ease.

The DO.DI.CI, on the other hand, is more like Spider-Man in the early movies—light, nimble, aerodynamic, but maybe not your first choice when things get messy.

Choose the DO.DI.CI if you:

  • Ride in cool but bone-dry conditions
  • Run hot and find most jackets too stifling
  • Want something that feels like a long-sleeve race jersey
  • Love the feeling of being aerodynamic, even if no one is chasing you

Choose the Perfetto if you:

  • Want one jacket to rule them all (yes, LOTR reference)
  • Ride in unpredictable weather
  • Need windproofing and some real-world protection
  • Prefer a slightly more forgiving garment that won’t punish you for breathing

The recap: The DO.DI.CI is your specialist sniper; the Perfetto is your Swiss-army-knife commando.

Castelli DO.DI.CI Jacket Fit

Let’s get this out of the way: the DO.DI.CI is a race fit. And not “recreational race fit” like some brands claim, but actual “Did I just put on the wrong size?” race fit. It hugs you the way your mom did when you left the house at 18.

Riding in the Castelli DO.DI.CI Jacket

It honestly feels more like a long-sleeve aero jersey than a jacket, which is great for minimizing drag but less great if you’ve had an enthusiastic off-season full of donuts.

Castelli sizing remains unapologetically European. For most riders, the rule is simple: If you don’t size up two sizes, that’s a you problem. (For reference, I typically wear a size Medium in race fit cycling gear and this jacket is an XL)

Castelli DO.DI.CI Jacket Comfort

Unless you’re built like a Tour de France GC contender, just assume you need more room—your ego will recover.

Who It’s Best For

This jacket is a niche tool—the kind of gear that caters to riders with a very specific need:

  • You ride fast. Or you at least dress like you ride fast.
  • You live in a place where the weather is mostly predictable (more California… less Ohio).
  • You’re obsessed with breathability.
  • You want something that feels elite, aerodynamic, and bulk-free.

But if you’re hunting for one do-it-all cool-weather layer, the Perfetto is still the MVP. It’s more versatile, more protective, and frankly just more…practical. It’s the “if I can only afford one premium jacket” jacket.

The DO.DI.CI is for the rider who already owns the basics and now wants a specialty weapon in the arsenal that breathes like the call is coming from inside the house.

Conclusion on the Castelli DO.DI.CI Jacket

The Castelli DO.DI.CI Jacket is a brilliant, niche, highly specialized piece that excels in dry, cool weather and aggressive riding. It’s almost a long-sleeve jersey, but with just enough insulation to stretch your season. The breathability is outstanding, the race fit is razor sharp, and the overall performance is genuinely enjoyable—especially for riders who tend to overheat.

But its versatility? Not as strong. Compared to the Perfetto, it’s simply not the all-rounder many riders might wish it were. That said, it’s not meant to be. Still, for its intended purpose—and for the rider who knows exactly what that purpose is—it’s absolutely worth considering.

Rating: 8.5/10
Price: Not cheap, but not outrageous in the high-end cycling world
Colors: A clean, modern palette that avoids the high-viz-crossing-guard look
Sizing: European. Tight. Size up 1–2 sizes unless you’ve got pro-tour DNA

A stylish, breathable, highly specific piece—like the cycling apparel version of casting Pedro Pascal in anything: not always necessary, but always cool. For more info or to check one out for yourself, visit castelli-cycling.com or backcountry.com.
