Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Review

Let’s talk about a name you might not have heard before but should absolutely have on your eBike radar: Puckipuppy. Yeah, the name sounds like something you’d name your childhood stuffed animal, but don’t let that fool you…this brand is quietly putting out some seriously solid electric rides.

This is actually the third Puckipuppy eBike we’ve had the pleasure of testing, and each one has left us pleasantly surprised. The last one, the GoldenR, felt like finding a sleeper hit at the back of the streaming queue…unassuming at first, but once you hop on, it’s a whole different story. And now, we’re back in the saddle with its sibling: the GoldenR Pro.

Spoiler: it’s got a few more tricks up its sleeve and comes riding in with some high expectations.

Unboxing and Assembly of the Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro

Right out of the gate, the GoldenR Pro makes a good impression with how it’s packaged. Everything arrived snug, secure, and intact…no sad, rattling parts or busted corners here. It’s the kind of packaging that shows the folks at Puckipuppy actually care about your first five minutes with the product…which might seem minor, but it really matters when you’re dropping this kind of cash. Nobody wants to start an eBike journey with a box full of question marks.

Assembly-wise, most of it followed the usual eBike script: attach the handlebars, seat, pedals, and front wheel, and you’re nearly there. But that front wheel? That’s where things get a bit more interesting. Since the GoldenR Pro is a dual motor ebike and has its second motor built into the front hub, installing it isn’t just a pop-it-on-and-go situation. It needs a little finesse to get everything lined up just right. That precision adds maybe five extra minutes, but it’s worth the effort to avoid any wonky performance down the road.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Assembly

All said and done, we clocked the full setup time at about 30 minutes, and that includes some minor adjustments and double-checks. Thankfully, Puckipuppy includes all the tools you need in the box, so you’re not digging through your junk drawer for a rogue Allen wrench. It’s not quite plug-and-play, but it’s close and for anyone with even basic DIY confidence, it’s a pretty smooth ride from unboxing to cruising.

Built Like a (Stylish) Tank

When it comes to build quality, the GoldenR Pro doesn’t mess around. The frame is solid and sports those beautiful, smooth “dime stack” welds that bike nerds love to geek out over. It’s a level of craftsmanship you can feel when you knock your knuckles against the frame…there’s zero flex or sketchiness here. Just solid, confidence-inspiring structure.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Build Quality

Now, this is a dual-motor eBike, and all that added power and hardware doesn’t come weight-free. At around 93 pounds, this bike isn’t something you’re going to casually toss over your shoulder to carry upstairs. You feel the heft when maneuvering it, but it also lends a planted, sturdy feel when riding…like you’re piloting something built to last, not a featherweight commuter.

One caveat: the seat post is short, and if you’re over 5’9″, you might find yourself doing a bit of what feels like a knee-to-chest motion on the upstroke. I’m six feet tall, and yeah… it feels a bit cramped during pedaling. It’s not a dealbreaker, especially since swapping in a longer seat post is a five-minute fix, but it’s definitely worth noting if you’re on the taller side. On the plus side, the integrated rear rack with taillight is a great touch, and the bike boasts a generous 400lb payload capacity, which makes it practical for heavier riders or those carrying cargo. Sturdy and sensible…that’s the GoldenR Pro vibe.

Double the Motors, Double the Grit

One of the standout features of the GoldenR Pro is its dual-motor setup…a rare beast in the eBike world and a major flex from Puckipuppy. We’re talking 960W peak in the rear and 640W peak in the front, which gives this bike the kind of torque and traction that makes uphill climbs feel way less dramatic than they look.

What’s especially fun (and frankly impressive) is how the power is balanced between the two motors. The rear handles the bulk of your go-power, but that front motor kicks in to keep you steady and confident on loose gravel, slick pavement, or any terrain where most single-motor bikes start to flail. It’s like having four-wheel drive for your pedals.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Power

The result? A smoother, more planted ride that doesn’t feel twitchy or overpowered…unless you want it to. Snap the throttle and you’ll see (and hear) it spit gravel with authority. This bike has muscle when you ask for it, and it delivers with grin-worthy torque. Better still, an intensity setting in the display lets you dial in how aggressively that power comes on, tailoring the ride to your style…whether you’re cruising easy or blasting through backroads.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Torque Sensor: The Secret Sauce

Here’s where the GoldenR Pro really sets itself apart from its sibling, the original GoldenR…and it’s a difference you can feel with every pedal stroke. While the GoldenR uses a cadence sensor, which basically treats pedaling like an on/off switch (you pedal, the motor kicks in…simple as that), the GoldenR Pro levels up with a torque sensor. And oh, what a difference that makes.

With a torque sensor, the bike doesn’t just detect if you’re pedaling, it senses how hard you’re pedaling, and adjusts the motor assistance accordingly. The harder you push, the more help you get. It’s like riding with a friend who knows just when to give you a boost without being asked. The result is smoother, more intuitive power delivery that feels way more natural and responsive. No lurching starts, no awkward surges…just a premium, almost magical ride experience.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Torque Sensor

If you’re someone who actually enjoys riding (like, moving your legs and feeling engaged in the experience) this is absolutely the bike you want. The Pro rewards effort and makes you feel like you’re riding a supercharged analog bike, not just sitting on a motorized couch.

Now, if you’re thinking, “Okay, but I want the bike to do most all of the work,” then the non-Pro GoldenR might actually be the better fit. It’s fast, it flies, and it’s about $100 cheaper. That cadence sensor setup makes it more like a moped or light electric motorcycle…great for folks who want power without the pedal-powered partnership.

But if you’re in the market for a ride that feels human, elevated, and just a bit luxurious, the GoldenR Pro’s torque sensor is absolutely the way to go. It’s the kind of upgrade you don’t know you need until you try it…and then you can’t go back.

Battery: Big Juice, Slow Sip

The GoldenR Pro comes equipped with a beefy 48V 20Ah battery, which gives it some serious stamina for long commutes, joyrides, or hauling gear. It’s the kind of capacity that makes range anxiety less of a daily concern and more of a “maybe next weekend” kind of thing.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Battery

To charge it up, you’re looking at a 48V 2A charger, which means from fully empty to topped off takes roughly 6 to 7 hours. That’s pretty standard for a battery this size…no blazing-fast charging tech here, but it gets the job done if you plug it in overnight or during a workday.

The battery is integrated but removable, which is always a plus if you want to take it inside for charging or security reasons. It feels well-made and locks in with confidence, not one of those wobbly slide-in units that feels like it might bounce out on a rough patch of road. All in all, it’s a dependable power source that pairs well with the bike’s muscular build and dual-motor drive.

Drivetrain: Shift Happens

Let’s give some love to the mechanical side of things. The GoldenR Pro is running the Shimano Altus 8-speed drivetrain…pretty much the standard setup on most fat tire eBikes in this class. It’s good. Sometimes great. It shifts cleanly, gets the job done without complaint, and feels perfectly matched to the type of riding this bike invites.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Drive Train

That said, if I’m throwing pennies in a wishing well, I’d love to see a 10-speed option here. It would offer just a bit more range and finesse, especially for riders who plan to pedal more aggressively or tackle more varied terrain. But for most people? This drivetrain is right where it needs to be.

Suspension & Tires: Float Mode Engaged

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Front Suspension

One of the GoldenR Pro’s most underrated strengths? Comfort. And a lot of that comes down to its 130mm front and rear adjustable suspension. Yes, rear suspension too…which is something you don’t always get in this price range. Whether you’re taking on curbs, potholes, or rocky trails, this thing eats it up without beating you up.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Rear Suspension

And let’s not forget the 26 x 4-inch Blackcat fat tires. These chunky beasts grip everything from pavement to loose gravel. They give you that big-bike confidence while adding a layer of cushion and stability that’s especially helpful at higher speeds or on sketchy terrain. It’s like rolling on marshmallows…rugged, off-road-ready marshmallows.

Brakes: Stop It. Really.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Hydraulic Brakes

With all that power under the hood, the GoldenR Pro needs serious stopping ability…and it delivers with 180mm hydraulic disc brakes front and rear. These Logan brakes aren’t flashy, but they work…and they work well. They’re responsive, consistent, and provide solid control when you need to scrub speed fast or finesse your way down a steep descent.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Brakes

Whether you’re descending at 30 mph or hauling a loaded trailer, these brakes keep things in check. It’s exactly the kind of braking setup you want when riding a 90+ lb. eBike that doesn’t mind going fast.

Cockpit: Command Central

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Handlebars

The cockpit of the GoldenR Pro is well thought out and surprisingly refined. Front and center is a 2.8” HD removable display that’s not just clearer and easier to read thanks to its upgraded brightness…it also doubles as a security feature. No display, no go. Without it, the bike won’t power on, which is a nice deterrent for any would-be joyriders.

Controls are intuitive: you’ve got a thumb throttle, buttons for power and pedal assist settings, and a switch that lets you toggle between single motor and dual motor drive. The grips are also worth a mention, they’re comfortable, ergonomic, and make long rides a little easier on the palms.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Control Buttons

Everything you need is right where you want it, and nothing feels overly complicated. It’s a solid setup that makes the bike feel more premium than its price tag might suggest.

Seat & Lights: Comfort Meets Cruiser Vibes

The seat on the GoldenR Pro is, in a word, plush. Wide and soft, it’s the kind of saddle that screams “cruise mode.” If your goal is leisurely rides with max comfort, this seat delivers. That said, if you’re planning to do serious pedaling or more aggressive riding, it might feel a little too much like a La-Z-Boy. It doesn’t encourage great leg extension or an athletic posture.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Seat

Swapping it out is easy, and worth considering if you’re in it for the ride and not just the glide.

Lighting is handled well too, with a built-in, brake actuated rear taillight mounted on the rack for visibility and a bright, integrated headlight up front. It’s a functional and sleek setup that keeps you visible and helps light the way for evening or early morning rides.

Whether you’re carrying gear for a weekend getaway or just picking up supplies, this bike is a legit hauler disguised as a cruiser.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Range & Speed: Real Talk

Puckipuppy claims a range of 40–80 miles, and while that’s technically possible, it really depends on how you ride. If you’re light on the throttle, stick to PAS 1, and ride conservatively, sure hitting the upper end of that range is likely doable.

But let’s be honest: most of us are here for the fun. And if you’re like us…ripping around on PAS 5 with generous use of that throttle…you’re more likely looking at around 38 miles on a single motor, and closer to 27 miles if you’re using both motors and have the speed fully unlocked in the settings.

Speaking of speed, the top end hits 33 mph with throttle (when unlocked), and about 31 mph with heavy pedaling. That’s fast…like, keep-your-eyes-peeled-and-hold-on kind of fast. But just know that at those speeds, your battery will disappear faster than snacks at a bike meetup.

The range is realistic, the speed is thrilling, and together they make for a ride that can be as practical or wild as you want it to be.

Pavement & Gravel: Smooth Sailing

On paved roads and gravel paths, the GoldenR Pro feels right at home. It’s smooth and fast, gliding over city streets with the kind of confidence you normally only get from much pricier bikes. The torque sensor keeps everything feeling responsive and natural, while the fat tires soak up vibration from uneven terrain like it’s no big deal.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Road Riding

Gravel? No problem. This bike tracks straight, stays planted, and gives you the control you need without bouncing you around like a popcorn kernel in a microwave. Whether you’re commuting through city streets or gliding down your favorite local rail trail, the GoldenR Pro delivers a stable, confidence-inspiring ride. It feels grounded, responsive, and smooth…just the way you want it when the pavement turns to gravel and you’re not ready to slow down.

Trails & Two-Tracks: Let’s Get Dirty

Take the GoldenR Pro off the beaten path and it doesn’t skip a beat. Thanks to its full suspension system, it absolutely eats up rougher terrain…absorbing bumps, dips, and trail chatter like a champ. You get that satisfying “floaty” feeling without losing control, which is exactly what you want when navigating unpredictable off-road tracks.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Trail Riding

Whether it’s a forest trail or an old two-track road, the ride is still smooth and fast, with enough power to climb, enough traction to grip, and enough comfort to keep you out there longer than you planned.

Hills & Hauling: No Sweat, No Struggle

This is where the dual motors really earn their keep. Hills? They’re toast. Switch on that front motor, and even steep inclines feel like minor inconveniences. You’ll power up with ease, barely breaking a sweat (unless you want to).

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Hill Climbing

But hauling might be the most impressive surprise here. In one of our test rides, we hitched up a trailer loaded with ten gallons of gas and a box full of groceries…because why not? With both motors engaged, the GoldenR Pro barely flinched. It felt stable, smooth, and totally capable of towing that extra weight without bogging down.

Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro Trailer Hauling

Whether you’re carrying gear for a weekend getaway or just picking up supplies, this bike is a legit hauler disguised as a cruiser.

Final Thoughts on the Puckipuppy GoldenR Pro

I haven’t found the perfect eBike yet…but the GoldenR Pro gets pretty darn close, at least from a riding standpoint. If the seat post were just a bit taller and the saddle a little less couch-like, it’d be hard to find anything to complain about. Okay, maybe toss in a couple more gears (10-speed, anyone?) and we’d really be cooking.

But even as it stands, this bike is a powerhouse. It’s versatile, it’s comfortable, and it handles just about anything you throw at it. Whether you’re commuting, trail-riding, hauling gear, or just out joyriding on a Saturday afternoon, the GoldenR Pro delivers. If you’re in the market for a dual motor eBike that can haul, climb, and cruise with confidence, this one’s absolutely worth putting on your shortlist.
