Security at home has always been a top priority for me, and when I stumbled upon the Reolink Argus 4 Pro, it seemed like the perfect solution to bolster my defenses. With its promise of cutting-edge technology and seamless integration, I embarked on a journey to delve deeper into the world of home surveillance and see how this camera could enhance my peace of mind.

Reolink Argus 4 Pro – Unboxing and Setup

I thought installing the Reolink Argus 4 Pro at the front of my house would be a good location, offering a broader perspective of my surroundings beyond just the porch. When it arrived snugly packed in an attractive box, containing not just the camera but also the user manual, solar panel, and all the necessary mounting gear, it felt like unwrapping a present. With templates provided to guide the pre-drilling process and the convenient ball and socket joints on both the camera and solar panel mounts allowing for precise adjustments, the setup was hassle-free. Opting to position the camera dead center on the front side of my house, I gained a panoramic 180-degree view of the road and the entirety of my front yard. Mounting the solar panel on the opposite side of the house ensured optimal exposure for efficient charging.

Security without Subscription

One of the standout features of the Reolink Argus 4 Pro is its support for local storage via a microSD card, eliminating the need for any subscription services. This allows users to store video footage directly on the camera, providing a cost-effective solution without recurring fees.

No Subscription Fees: One thing that I really like about this camera is that I can simply purchase the camera and use it straight out of the box, with all recordings stored on the microSD card (purchased separately). Without a subscription, users aren’t locked into long-term commitments. This flexibility allows for easy switching of cameras or systems without any ongoing service fees.

No Internet Required: Unlike cameras that rely on subscription services that often require a constant internet connection, the Reolink Argus 4 Pro can function independently of the internet, ensuring continuous operation even if the connection drops.

Different Storage Options: The camera supports up to 128GB of local storage via a microSD card (not included). Once the microSD card runs out of storage capacity older videos are replaced by new recordings. For those needing more storage, Reolink’s Cloud service is available but entirely optional.

Reolink Argus 4 Pro – Battery Life and Performance

At first, I was worried about the battery life of the Argus 4 Pro because it’s wireless. But I was happy to see that it lasted well even in tough conditions. The camera comes with a solar panel that only needs a few hours of sunlight each day to keep the battery charged.

However, the spot where I placed the solar panel didn’t get enough sunlight to fully charge the camera, which gave me a chance to test how long the battery would last. Impressively, starting from 63%, it took five days to drop to about 20%. The battery life depends on different settings, like how long the camera records when it detects motion, which can be adjusted for sensitivity. I also cut down on false alerts by blocking out certain areas in the camera’s view, like the road, so I wouldn’t get notified every time a car passed by.

Usage Over 5 days

As the battery got low, I charged it using a power station I’m testing and moved the solar panel to a better spot. Using a tree/pole mount, I attached the solar panel to one of my gutter brackets. Right away, I noticed the camera started charging consistently throughout the day, and the battery hasn’t dropped below 97% since then. Still, I’m curious to see how the camera will keep its charge during the winter months.

Reolink Argus 4 Pro – Night Vision and Image Quality

At night, the camera performed exceptionally well. The camera impressed me with its clear image in low-light conditions, proving its ability to keep watch even in complete darkness. Thanks to its large lens and sensor, the camera captures as much light as possible, making the images look just as good as they do during the day.

Reolink Smart Features and App Integration

Exploring the Argus 4 Pro’s smart features was like peeling back the layers of an onion, each one revealing new possibilities for enhanced security. From customizing alert settings to engaging in two-way conversations utilizing the built in two way speaker, the camera offered a wealth of functionality at my fingertips. While the Reolink app provided seamless access to my camera’s feed, I couldn’t help but wish for a louder speaker and more robust alarm—a minor inconvenience in an otherwise seamless experience.

Conclusion

My journey with the Reolink Argus 4 Pro has been nothing short of transformative. From the excitement of unboxing to the reassurance of night vision clarity, each step along the way has deepened my appreciation for this innovative security solution. While minor improvements could enhance its functionality, they pale in comparison to the peace of mind and sense of security the Argus 4 Pro provides. Priced at $239.90, the Reolink Argus 4 Pro is a worthy investment for anyone looking to bolster their home security with style and sophistication.
