The recipe calls for just three ingredients: Irish Whiskey Infused Coffee, brown sugar and lightly whipped cream. It couldn’t be easier.

What you’ll need to make a delicious non-alcoholic Irish coffee :

  • 4 oz. freshly brewed Fire Dept. Coffee’s Irish Whiskey Infused Coffee
  • 2 tsp. brown sugar
  • 1 oz. lightly whipped cream
  • Nutmeg, Coffee beans, or grounds for garnish
  • Spoon
  • Glass

How to make a non-alcoholic Irish coffee:

  1. Keep the glass hot.
    For the best results pour some hot boiling water into the glass. This will keep your coffee piping hot for longer. It’s recommended to use a tall cocktail glass for a bar-style Irish coffee.
  2. Brew the Irish Whiskey Infused Coffee
    Using the method of your choice, such as a French press or an automatic dripper, brew around 4 ounces of coffee.
  3. Get the cream ready
    Lightly whip the cream, just enough to thicken it a bit. You don’t want to turn it into a fluffy cloud, or else you’ll no longer be able to pour it properly. The visual presentation, with the contrast between black and white, is a big part of the Irish coffee. In order to avoid streaks of cream running into the black coffee, keep the cream as cold as possible until the last minute, and make sure the coffee is piping hot.
  4. Pour and Add
    Discard the hot water that was warming the cup. Pour the coffee, tip in the sugar, and stir until they are completely dissolved (check the bottom of the glass to avoid granules). Now grab the spoon and hold it on top of the glass. Pour the cream over the back of the spoon very carefully so that it doesn’t sink to the bottom of your glass. This simple trick will allow you to obtain a proper bar-style Irish Coffee with a thin white layer clearly separated from the main black part.
  5. Garnish it and Enjoy
    If you want to impress your guests or make your cocktail Instagram worthy, you can add a sprinkle of nutmeg, coffee grounds or even a few whole beans on top. That’s it.

The whipped cream not only looks impressive topping the cocktail, but its flavor and texture are an important part of the experience. But I know some people don’t do dairy, in which case, whip refrigerated, full fat canned coconut milk to use as an alternative, it’ll float too.

Simple to make, but the result is anything but.

Don’t like the hot stuff? No problem. Serve it on ice. Pour cold brew coffee or double-strength brewed coffee over a cup filled with ice. Add a splash of half and half and skip the whipped cream.
