Redington SonicDry Pant
The Redington SonicDry Pant are lightweight breathable waders that keep you dry and cool when out on the river. Over the years I’ve been a fly fisherman, I have owned and fished in many types of waders and these pants are unique in how light and how breathable they are. I have had the chance to fish, hike, and bushwhack into fishing locations while field testing the Redington SonicDry Pants and they performed well.
Field Testing the Redington SonicDry Pant
My initial impressions of the Redington SonicDry Wading Pant was that they were incredibly lightweight. The pants feel as light as a pair of synthetic hiking pants. This was exciting considering I was about to hike 2 miles in wading gear to one of my favorite trout streams. During my hike I was amazed how breathable the pants were. Under the waders I had a lightweight pair of fleece pants, and I stayed comfortable throughout the hike. I have a tendency to easily overheat when hiking in my wading apparel, and I was kept cool and comfortable. The lightweight properties of the Redington Sonicdry Pant make them excellent for keeping cool when you need to hike to your fishing destination.

Another bonus of the is that they are not full sized waders. I found that in warm weather it was more comfortable to fish in wading pants over a full sized waders. Since wading pants only cover from the waist down down, I was able to fish in a long sleeve shirt most of the day. Although I did not have a chance to fish out of a drift boat while wearing the Redington SonicDry Wading Pant, I am confident that they would be great to use in this situation. In a drift boat I often end up only needing waders to get in and out of the boat.
The Redington SonicDry Wading Pant performed equally as well while wading in the river. I was able to go waist deep without any issues. In many fishing situations, waist deep is as far as I would really need to wade. Although I wasn’t wading in very deep, there was a bit of learning curve. I have a tendency to get my shirt wet, because I am accustomed to fishing in full chest waders. The pants kept me dry the entire time, but I could definitely notice how thin they were while wading in the cold river. The 3mm neoprene foot boots were thick enough to keep my feet comfortable.

Features and Fit of the Redington SonicDry Pant
The Redington SonicDry Pant is constructed out of Surgecell waterproof breathable fabric. The 37.5 nano-technology along with the outer fabric combines for great breathability. I can attest that this fabric was both breathable and waterproof. The Surgecell fabric was so light and thin that I could definitely feel how cold the water was. If I planned on spending hours wading in cold snowmelt water, I would wear more layers underneath the pants. Another feature of this fabric is the ability to dry out quickly. I often fish multiple days in a row and find when waders stay wet they get smelly in a hurry. After a day of fishing these waders were dry by morning.
The seams of the waders are double layered and constructed using an ultrasonic welding design. This will help maintain durability and extend the length of life.

The fit of the wading pants were sufficient allowing me to bend my knees and walk around with little limitation. The wading pants can be adjusted by the use of a neoprene built in belt that is easy to use and cinch down to the right fit. The waders are supported by suspender straps that were easy to set.

Directly above the neoprene boot on each leg is the gravel guard which can clip to the wading boot. I found the gravel guard to be a tight fit around my wading boot but I was still able to clip it to my top laces.

Storage in the wading pants consists of two pockets. The larger of the pockets is located inside the pants and is large enough to hold a cell phone and wallet. The smaller pocket is located on the outside and is rather small. I would not recommend putting anything in there that cannot handle moisture in this pocket.

Final Thoughts on the Redington SonicDry Pant
The Redington SonicDry Pant is good fit for the angler who likes to fish on hot summer days on cold trout streams. The breathability and the light weight design will keep you comfortable not only on water but for the entire hike in. Although lightweight, Redington managed to slip in some nice design features like the double layered seams, pockets for gear, and nice built in waist belt.
