The mountain lifestyle is often something that is sought after with all shapes, sizes and colors of society. There is something that is majestic about the mountains and whenever we get the chance to let our mind wander in this beautiful and peaceful oasis, we will take that opportunity every time. The Chaco Zealander is a slip on clog that allows you to escape to that happy place at least just for a moment whether you live in New York City or Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Chaco, a long time mountain brand with it’s original roots in Steamboat Springs is no stranger to the mountain lifestyle. After all, the brand has long been making products that allow you to explore in the mountains, rivers and streams. And if you’re not familiar with Chacos’ dog leashes and collars, they are a must see. Yes, my wife and I had our wear their Chaco Collars to our wedding as can be seen in this older Chaco leash and collar review.
Clog Upper
- Chaco Zealander
- Front of Chaco Zealander
The Chaco Zealander is made with a waterproof full grain leather that has color options of black, dark brown and a weathered brown to fit most style preferences. This leather only gets better with age as do many quality leather products. There is a thin layer of fabric on the inside of the Zealander which helps keep your feet from getting to clammy and also offers a little bit of warmth. This also allows you to go barefoot without having the leather rub the top of your toes which can give you blisters. To keep the clog from rubbing your foot where it meets the ankle, there is a leather thin leather layer on the inside covered by wool on the outside of the clog for style.

Chaco Zealander Footbed & Midsole
- Chaco Luvseat Footbed
- Chaco Luvseat Footbed
To sweeten the deal for your feet, Chaco uses their removable knit-lined LUVSEAT™ PU footbed which is super comfortable against your foot. The midsole is made with a soft yet durable EVA which adds to the comfort with every stride and there is a nylon shank to keep the clog from flexing too much.
EcoTread Outsole

Chaco EcoTread Outsole
For the outsole Chaco uses their non-marking EcoTread™ which will last for many years, but keep in mind this is not like their other outsoles that are designed for hiking or rafting.
Final Thoughts
While the Chaco Zealander isn’t designed to take you into the mountains such as a hiking boot or pair of trail running shoes, it makes for a great way to express your love for the mountains. In addition to expressing your mountain style in casual settings, the Zealander is also a great after sport clog to keep your feet happy after your adventures. Kevin,
How can we get Chaco to make the Zealander (J105407) again?
This is by far one of my best shoe purchase. It’s just an amazing shoe, all around. Thank god that when I picked up my first pair, and found them to be the best ever, I went back and purchased two additional pairs as back-ups. … I am still wearing them, as that they are my “go to” shoe….. Please, how can Chaco be convinced to bring this shoe back on line ??
Hi Richard,
Thanks for the question and the comment. As with most things that get discontinued and then get brought back, it all falls on customer demand. Get enough people to plea for a return of the Zeelander and Chaos will accommodate. Which is far easier said then done.
