For the BBQ’er that loves their grilling gadgets, the BBQ Dragon is a great companion that helps you get your coals heated up quick. The BBQ Dragon is a portable fan that is designed for grillers, smokers, firepits, and fireplaces. For the purpose of this review, I used the BBQ Dragon to assist me with my smoker.
What is the BBQ Dragon for?
The basic premise of the BBQ Dragon is that it is a fan that accelerates the rate at which you get your charcoal ready. If you’ve ever cooked with charcoal, you know it’s important to get oxygen on your coals to get them burning hot. To truely get your coals ready, it can take 20-30 minutes which is ok for some, but as someone who values every minute of the day, having my grilling and smoking coals ready 10-20 minutes faster gets me excited.
To get the BBQ Dragon working, all you need to do is clamp it on somewhere near the coals and turn on the fan. Depending on your need for air, you can adjust the fan speed as needed. Generally the faster that you have the fan going, the faster your coals become ready for cooking. I tend to have issues with my smoker keeping a consistent hot temperature, so I use the BBQ Dragon from time to time to keep my coals from smoldering and losing heat.
For use, the Dragon takes 4 AA batteries and if you want, you can make an additional purchase to this Fan and by the rechargeable battery set so all you need to do is plug in your micro USB charger cable into the port on the unit. If you have you’re own rechargeable batteries, you can use those too and most of us have a micro USB charging cable. Both are good options in my book.

To be able to stand up to the heat of smokers, grills, fire pits and fireplaces, a product must be able to withstand heat. I have found the quality of the BBQ Dragon to be exceptional. To begin with, the clamp is strong enough to keep the fan in position at any angle. The stainless steel on the fan housing is built to be strong and sturdy. It has held up to the heat very well and it has also held up to me dropping it a few times.
Final Thoughts
If grilling, smoking, and mastering the camp fire is your thing, the BBQ Dragon is a great addition to your fire starting quiver.
