The Helly Hansen Enroute Hybrid Pant is an ideal option for running in sub par weather conditions. The Enroute Hybrid Pant is constructed of a combination of soft shell and stretch running pant materials that allow for unrestricted movement.
Sliding into the pants, you will notice that these are not a form fitting running tight or a bulky training pant, but the sweet spot right between the two, the hybrid pant. The pants are made from polyamide, elastane and polyester, which gives them a good flexible and cozy fit. An elasticized waistband provides extra comfort through your run, should you need to snug the waist a bit tighter the pants have two velcro loops on the outside of the hips that can be adjusted. The closure on the front consists of a fly zipper and two snap buttons at the top buckle area. The pants have tapered legs giving you the close ankle feel of running tights and are equipped with zippers at the bottom that allows you to slip into the pants more easily.
The Enroute Hybrid Pant is equipped with one front zippered pocket that can accommodate a large cell phone, cash, keys, water flask, gels or nutrition snacks. The pants fit fairly snug in the thigh which definitely minimizes the bounce factor of carrying a cell phone in that front pocket. While it was not a terrible nuisance to run with the cell phone, I would say that running with gels, keys and cash is the better way to go, as I barely noticed those.
Running in temperatures below freezing, the pants were able to keep me plenty warm and block out the artic wind. On warmer days, the Enroute Hybrid Pants were able facilitate the evaporation of built-up water vapor resulting from perspiration, keeping me comfortable and dry. Tackling tricky trails or steep high climbs were no problem, as the pants allowed for unrestricted movement all the way through.
