Karhu Forward Fulcrum Ride Review
Karhu is not as recognizable in the US as some other running shoe brands, but this Finnish company has been making sporting goods including running shoes since the 1920s when the legendary Flying Finn, Paavo Nurmi ran in Karhus!
The main focus of their new Fulcrum Ride running line is unobtrusive correction of pronation or supination, but largely letting the foot follow its natural path; conserving vertical energy and creating a more efficient stride. The Forward Fulcrum Ride is intended for neutral runners. Standing or walking in the Forward Ride feels different than in other shoes- the midsole underfoot feels somewhat like it is rounded with a high spot in the middle. If this feels somewhat strange while walking or standing, it does feel great while running. The Forward Fulcrum Ride has a great spongy midsole feel that still has great response, and it does have a very natural heel to toe transition.
We tested this shoe during runs up to 12 miles and it held up well into hours of concrete and asphalt-pounding. Our testers did comment that the upper materials are somewhat stiff so the fit is not super versatile for wider feet. However, if the shoe does fit you well, it will make a great high-mileage performance trainer that will not weigh you down, coming in at 10.5 oz., according to Karhu.
