First Thoughts On The Adidas Terrex Stockhorn

Gosh darn it…. I really didn’t want to review this Adidas Terrex Jacket…..   Seriously.  It’s the beginning of May, and I have been running in shorts and t-shirts. A heavier winter running  jacket is truly uncalled for this time of year.  Wouldn’t you know it, we have another Bomb Cyclone hitting, and since I am a fan of the extremes, I had to go for a run in it.  Hence, my Adidas Stockhorn reluctantly got to see some action.

Of course, I’m only joking. This is a really nice and simple jacket. And by simple, I mean it is a sleek and clean design. The technical elements surely shine, and I’ll discuss those in a bit more detail down below. They call it hoodie (fine, it does have a hood on it), but it feels more like a jacket with a hood. Semantics, I suppose.

Temperamental Spring weather has provided a fair bit of good running and testing. Cloudy, rainy, cold and dreary conditions have been ideal for taking this jacket out. Warm enough during my initial warm up. Not too many built-in venting opportunities if the temperatures do climb (aside from opening up the good ol’ zipper), but that’s not really what it was designed for. She can handle the cold temps, and that’s what matters. I got a little taste of it during the spring “Bomb Cyclones” we’ve been hit with this year. In the near future, I’ll be hitting some high altitude trails, and will surely bring the Adidas Terrex Stockhorn along as the weather can change on a dime.

To be honest, I have really enjoyed the use of this Jacket in a casual everyday setting. Adidas has always had a way to go from elite and technical sports performance, and then crossover into the casual everyday wear space. Think RunDMC in “My Adidas”….Ok, that dates me, but look around, and you’ll see Adidas on the lay person no matter what they are doing. This jacket also has that very comfortable relaxed every day vibe to it, and I intend to wear it as such.

Fit Of The Adidas Stockhorn

I am putting a lot of stock into the “full-length” aspect of this jacket. I would normally wear a Medium, but in this case I went for the large. Especially, since this is the last layer of defense, I can surely add several shirts depending on what elements I may face. This jacket has a relaxed fit, yet somehow conforms nicely to the body. The Technostretch checks a lot of boxes on my ideal wish list. It adds insulation, warmth, and, moisture wicking properties, all the while providing a clean and smooth body hugging fit.

I like the extended collar with zipper. It adds a little bit of extra warmth around the neck, and looks stylish. Two zippered pockets are also nice for providing some relief for the hands, but can carry a few minimal essentials when on a run. I don’t like putting my phone in there as it bounces around too much, but they are good for those extra poop bags when I’m out with my pup. The Hoodie element will come in nicely with more extreme weather.

An added bonus are the interior “pockets” if you wanted to stuff something else in there.

I like the look and feel of the Adidas Terrex Stockhorn. Quality materials combined with great technological features provide for a warm and sleek running experience. Plus, I like the casual, elegant, and active look it provides when I’m simply out and about. This jacket came in super handy on a recent trip to the Central California coast when it wasn’t hot and sunny. Definitely a jacket that can see a variety of uses.
