Brooks Essential Run Wind Pant Review
As far as wind pants/running pants go, it always seemed that a lot of the wind pants out there are the same thing with a different brand stamped on them. Brooks on the other hand decided to step up your standard wind pant a notch. To start off, Brooks decided to replace the nylon material with a stretch material similar to material that is used in running shorts with stretchy properties. The areas in which this material is used includes a small portion of the rear end near the lower back. This is an area that tends to get hot and overheats, so you get a little help with temperature regulation. Another area this material is used is the crotch. In the Essential Run Wind Pant, there is a gusseted crotch made of the breathable stretchy material that allows for some added flexibility and temperature regulation. There is also a small portion of this material used on each thigh. I was pleasantly surprised when I first saw this material being used and it actually works too!
For visibility during the nighttime and low light conditions, the Essential Run Wind Pant has enough reflective material that a car can see you, but it isn’t overdone. The bottom of the pant legs have a 9″ zipper that allows you to slide the pants on and off in and instant. This is nice for those who try to stay warm before racing. I am 6’0 tall, 175lbs with a 32 inch waist and the size medium fits perfect. As far as temperatures go, I have worn these pants down to 15 degrees and have been fine. This is somewhat subjective as I typically don’t wear pants unless the temperature dips below 30 F. If you get caught out in the rain, the pants are technically not waterproof, but they do have a durable water repellent applied to the outside of the pant. Think of this as Rain X for clothing.
