La Sportiva Gust Short
Prior to 2013, I had heard of La Sportiva but had never tried any of their gear. Last year, I ended up with the Bushido trail running shoe and was blown away. When I was presented with the opportunity to review some of La Sportiva’s apparel, I jumped on it. (See my review of the La Sportiva Kuma 2.0 Shirt HERE)
The La Sportiva Gust Short markets itself as “ELEGANT SIMPLICITY AND EXTRAORDINARY RANGE OF MOTION MAKE THE GUST SHORT IDEAL FOR ANY KIND OF RUN” After logging some hard earned miles in these shorts, I have to say that even though these shorts are simply designed they are WELL designed.
La Sportiva Gust Short Fit/Comfort:
La Sportiva is an Italian company nestled in the Dolomites. Typically, I find Euro companies run smaller on their gear. Either way, I went with a size Medium based on their sizing chart. I range between a 32″-33″ waist, and to my surprise the Gusts fit me perfectly. In fact, I even had some room to use the drawstring and tighten them up a bit. My opinion is that the Gust shorts are true to size. If you follow La Sportiva’s sizing chart you should be good to go.
The La Sportiva Gust short does not have a built in liner so you will need to provide your own compression or go commando. I opted to use some Body Glide and go commando. These shorts are very comfortable and I never experienced any chaffing as a result of any seams or for my choice to go commando! Even though the Gust’s are a little longer at 8″ I found the 2″ splits on the sides to provide excellent range of motion.

La Sportiva Gust Short Design/Features:
As marketed by La Sportiva, this a simple short and does not have many features. The construction is 88% Nylon and 12% Spandex. I like this blend and found the material to hang loosely/lightly and not impede my range of motion. This material also provided sufficient breathability. Storage is minimal. The Gusts come with a single inner pocket that can hold a key and a gel, max. It’s important to point out that a major benefit of this simple design is that the Gust short weighs in at only 3.7 ounces.
I tend to be a minimalist with running shorts and appreciated the simplicity of the design. Even though the design is simple, I think it is aesthetically pleasing. The La Sportiva Logos are thoughtfully placed and lighter colored stitching adds a little pop to the short.

La Sportiva Gust Short Final Thoughts:
I really liked running in these shorts, but really would have preferred a built in liner. The fit was true to size, performance was good, the design was simple yet stylish and the range of motion was amazing. The Gust Short MSRPs for $45 and is offered in Grey and Sea Blue.
