If you’re looking for a single lightweight layer that will keep you warm on winter runs, the Mizuno Breath Thermo Crew should be added to your list of potentials. The patented Breath Thermo fabric is said to absorb your body’s moisture and generate heat from it to help regulate your body’s temperature.
The Breath Thermo Crew features high-quality construction with flat lock seams, a paneled construction and what appears to be three different versions of the same Breath Thermo material.
I wore this top as a single layer, as a baselayer for winter sports, and with a light wind shell over it. I found it to excel in each instance.
It is tough to tell whether the material threaded into the weave of the shirt was actually turning moisture into heat, but I can tell you that it kept me warm, dry, and comfortable whether I barely broke a sweat or was sweating up a storm.
The three different materials for the chest/back, arms, and sides definitely have different levels of warmth and moisture wicking depending on the placement. The core was extremely warm, but also wicked very well while the sides and arms were just as warm but didn’t require as much wicking power.
This Mizuno top did exactly what it was made to do, is durable, and comfortable. The one issue I found was sizing. I went by the size chart on the website and the top was really small; the neck hole was so small I couldn’t barely fit my head through. I recommend sizing up.
