New Balance Momentum Shorts Review
Female focused running, yoga, and workout brands have really forced all women’s workout wear to be fashionable and functional. New Balance’s current line continues this trend. The New Balance Momentum Short now comes in traditional solid or two color options and graphic or patterned options.
The Momentum Graphic shorts are a three-inch inseam running short with a nylon-like exterior short and a light soft mesh interior brief. The outer short on the pair I tested was fairly thick and a little stiff, but I could see that varying a bit depending on the pattern. The outer short includes New Balance’s Lightening Dry technology and did wick well and dry quickly.
The interior brief was soft, quick drying and odor resistant. The brief stayed right where I wanted it for the duration of a run and never chaffed or pinched. Not only was the brief very soft, but the waistband was also very smooth against the skin. Even when I cinched a waist belt on top of it for longer outings it didn’t irritate my skin.
The Momentum shorts have a piped edge that arches across the back and down the sides which offers a flattering addition. Centred on the back of the shorts there is an envelope style stow pocket that closes with Velcro. While the stow pocket is nice to have the Velcro stuck so tightly closed that I found it challenging to open the pocket while on the move.
According to the New Balance website these are semi-fitted shorts. Given this consideration, they run true to size, but it would be nice for the outer short to have a bit if stretched to accommodate the slimmer fit. If you prefer your running shorts looser or baggy or if you’re on the upper end of the size chart you may want to consider sizing up.
Overall, if you’re looking for a flattering, functional running short don’t look past the New Balance Momentum shorts, especially if you’re looking for some fun colors and patterns.
There is currently only one pattern available on newbalance.com.
