The Women’s Saucony Stryder Short may look like a plane jane pair of shorts, but don’t let their appearance fool you. The Stryder Short is by far the most comfortable running short that I have worn in a long time. The short features Saucony’s own Stretch Ultrasilk fabric which is a combination of polyester and spandex. The fabric is light, breathable, and does not stick to you when you are sweating hard. The body of the short is a solid color, however Saucony has incorporated mesh side panels for ventilation and made the panels a bright accent to liven up the look of the Stryder Short.
The Saucony Stryder Short features a low profile, elastic waistband with drawstring to keep the shorts in place. Just under the waistband on the back right of the shorts, there is an invisible zippered pocket. This pocket is nicely placed and can accommodate your car/house keys, energy gel, and even a small iPod. I like that the pocket does not interfere with your stride, unlike some envelope styled pockets often placed on the front of running shorts. There is a reflective Saucony logo on the left thigh for added visibility.
As for sizing, I felt that the Saucony Stryder Short ran true to size. The integrated running brief offered more than adequate coverage without riding up. The Stryder Short is not a split short, rather it offers generous leg openings and the fabric moves with you to allow an uninterrupted stride. Saucony states that these shorts feature a 4.5″ inseam. When measuring at home, I got more like 4″. The length of the short is ideal for those that like a bit more coverage without wearing a baggy, men’s style of short. The fabric is light yet does not flap up easily with the wind, thanks to the stitched lower seam, which adds some weight. If you roll your running shorts (like me), the length will shorten a bit, but still keeps your backside covered.
