My Thoughts on the Polar Grit X Pro Mossy Oak
This watch has been a game-changer for my training routine. There are many ways to use this watch for different activities, and I will highlight some of the features that I have found most useful. The heart rate monitor is my favorite feature. It’s easy to use, and it provides me with the best indication of how my workout is going. Since my lifestyle involves many different types of activities, using my heart rate as a baseline allows me to assess my output and properly recover. I also use the heart monitor to check my state of mind, especially as a high school teacher. If my heart rate is above my normal resting rate, I take some time to do some breathing and mindful exercises, which are also available on the watch.
Living in the mountains of Colorado, weather and altitude are always a concern. The weather app is great for checking up-to-date weather over the next couple of hours. Additionally, I like to know how much elevation I have gained during my workouts, especially during hunting and mountain biking. Understanding the elevation gain is critical for success during hunting, where I often hike up a couple of thousand feet, and for planning my future mountain biking rides.
Navigation
The navigation feature, although a bit cumbersome to initially set up, is really cool. By using the third-party app Komoot and syncing it with the Polar Flow app, I can set up my route and get it to the watch. The route navigation shares elevation profiles and notifies me of the route directions. At the end of the destination, I can choose to backtrack the same route or take the most direct way. However, I would like a built-in map with topographic lines, which would give me more perspective on where relative to other land features I am. This feature would be amazing for hunting, and a partnership with a platform like OnX would be super useful.

Sleeping
I have never been a great sleeper, but the Polar Grit X Pro has a setting that has helped me out. There is a sleep monitoring feature that tracks sleep patterns. After the three-night baseline that monitors sleep patterns, I can assess my sleep length and quality. This feature is important since my food, drink, and exercise during the day can impact my sleep. Being able to track my sleep patterns allows me to make the right decisions during the day, so my sleep can benefit.
Connectivity
I have found that the options for different types of activities have been great, and the push notifications feature has been useful too. The Polar app called Flow allows me to access texts/calls and music controls during my workouts. This feature saves me from having to take out my phone when I am on certain activities like skinning or biking. The music control feature is also easy to use, allowing me to start, stop, and skip different music options or podcasts.
Design Quality
Lastly, the fit and comfort of the watch are excellent. Everything seems to be well-built and well-thought-out, and the scratch-resistant sapphire glass is a bonus. The watch is light enough that it doesn’t feel bulky and is comfortable to wear. I am excited to use the performance and recovery tests once my calf injury is healed, as these features will help me track my progress and tailor my workouts to maximize my training routine.

Fit and Size
I found the Mossy Oak coloration on the band to be acceptable. As an avid hunter, I own a fair amount of camo attire, but I’m not sure if the camo pattern on the watch band will be significant during hunting situations since the area is so minimal. However, what I do appreciate about the camo theme is that it reminds me to step up my training so that I can have a successful hunting season. No matter how in shape I am during hunting season, I always wish I did more during the off season. Having the unique watch band reminds me of what all my training is for.
